2003 Draft Revisited

Newman was elite from 2003-2006. Maybe because he was already in his prime as a rookie  But he was every bit worth the #5 pick during those years. After those seasons, he wasn't great anymore...although he was still decent but definitely not on the level of a CB that you'd expect with a Top-5 pick.

Curious if that microfracture surgery Johnson had on his knee his rookie year affected his play throughout his career. Not saying he would of been lights out better, but still not everyone who has the surgery in any sport returns to pre form.
But Gurode finally took over the center spot anyways and became a legit probowl center even with his inconsistency with shotgun snaps.

That being said, I hated we passed on Witten in the second for Johnson. Thought for sure Witten would be gone by then.

I remember screaming that we should've taken Witten in RD 2. Pure insanity that at least four TEs went before him. I saw a ton of him playing at UTenn because I used to root for whomever they were playing and this guy Witten was just a monster. Unreal he fell all the way to us in the third. He had the size, the stats, and the hands... still not sure why he fell that far

That was back in the day when I would just go to DC.com for all my Cowboys draft info. They had him pegged as a last first rounder.
Still don't get how he fell, but glad he did. lol

Newman was just another player thrown to the curb by this FO and fan base.

There's a trend on this site and many others I assume of picking a player to pick on and blaming said player for problems that are much bigger than a single individual.

The list of names is troubling with Dez Bryant being the latest.

Releasing a player isn't automatically the equivalent of blaming all things on that player. Every team has to make personnel choices, and choices about how and where to spend their cap money.
