Great question. I suspect Parcells had no intention of playing a rookie because he knew he wouldn't be here long enough.

I think you are absolutely correct.

He did have the guts to play some other guy, though. Trying to remember his name........................

Yes Jerry Jones is the devil, constantly drafting scrubs. In the worst draft of the decade he picked out the greatest player of them all, all he does is suck and lose games, that Jerry Jones...what a *******.

Refresh my memory. Why didn't the Cowboys take Aaron Rodgers? (instead of Spears) Romo was a developmental guy at that point. Was Parcells really that high on Bledsoe? I wonder if Jerry takes him if Parcells wasn't there at that time.
Kyle Boller scared teams off (Cal QB) and the Tedford Offense was thought to not translate into the pros, etc. Oops:D

Well, according to this we had a nice draft. Ware, Barber, Spears and Ratliff ended up being first round do overs lol

Some of those are dumb though like guys who didn't play for long like Edwards, Barber, Merriman, Cadillac Williams...ect

You could make a case for Canty being on that list as well.

A dead clock is right twice a day, and Aaron Rodgers was the best player in that draft, not Ware.

22 teams passed on him and very few of that bunch had surefire franchise QBs. They were all wrong, similar but to a lesser degree than what happened with Marino, Brady, and Brees.

In the end, that was one of Dallas' best draft in years.

Ware
Ratliff
Barber
Canty

even Burnett had a long career

How very annoying the JJ hate gets. His past drafts (for active players) have been fantastic as well, he has drafted beautifully, yet people will always blame the GM, the same one who built the greatest stadium in the world, the same one who found Romo as an UFA, drated Pro-Bowlers on both sides of the ball, the same one who just signed Melton, cleared space for the next off-season, got a younger roster, built from the draft and since 2005 (That's 9 seasons folks) has only had one losing season (It was 2010 the year we lost Romo so that too speaks volumes on the talent of our QB); an 81-63 record since. Yes, keep on blaming JJ, the devil himself. It's the GM's job to give the team a chance to win, it's not his fault Romo mishandled that snap, Crayton dropped that pass, Orton intercepted that pass, the defense is a World War II suqad, etc. Blame Jerry Jones all you want, truth is, there are not that many great facts to back the hate up.

Ware was a fantastic pick, no way in hell to question the best non-QB player in that class, Jones has proven despite the blind hate he gets that he is a fantastic GM when it comes to the draft.

Wow. I sure wouldn't go that far.
That draft turned out really well, but our drafting on average over the years has been, well, average at best.

I disagree:

2013: Travis Frederick, Terrance Williams.
2012: Morris Claiborne, Tyrone Crawford.
2011: Tyron Smith, Bruce Carter, Demarco Murray, Dwayne Harris.
2010: Dez Bryant, Sean Lee.

Those are all fantastic players that have contributed to our team greatly, Jerry has been finding play-makers despite the media criticism. Not easy to hit on the last first round picks, and the majority since 2005 (Ware), compare that to other teams and it is pretty good drafting.

That's short-sighted

2012? Horrible draft! At least so far. No way in hell I would ever call using both our 1st and 2nr round picks to trade up for Mo Claiborne as savvy drafting. That is the exact opposite. Crawford is still a with and see too. And what about the rest of the players that year. I bet most would give us a "D" at best for 2012.

2011 is okay so far. Hard to miss on Smith, but he was a good pick anyway. Harris was good value, and one of the only 6th rounders they've hit on in a long time. Murray is ok, though often injured. Let's not include Carter just yet though.

2013: Real early but they may have hit on two or more of the 7 picks. Looks potentially promising, though many would say the Escobar pick (passing on some great players there) was expensive for a 2nd rounder. Could be a B, but most still give it a C.

I do agree that they are drafting a bit better lately than they were.

Most importantly, when people say good or bad or average drafting, there is no cherry picking. Go back the last 17-18 years, post Jimmy, and you'll see that we have been AT BEST average.
