Other than possibly Ware, Ellis is the best LDE we have in a 3-4, with Spears on the team.

they have him moved I believe to RDE.

Sorry - that was a typo. And no doubt he is a better LDE than RDE. But the other reason (and you durn well know it) was that Wiley was plain bad on the strong side. He was plain bad on both sides, but if Ellis is best at one of those and Wiley is going to suck at both, might as well put wiley elsewhere.
