2006 = weakest Super Bowl teams ever

Hey Rack shut your mouth before I kick your ARSE:laugh1: :laugh1: :laugh1: :laugh1: :laugh1: :laugh1: :laugh1: :laugh1: :laugh1: :laugh1: :laugh1: :laugh1: :laugh1:

I predict this thread wouldn't exist if Dallas was playing and winning today.

hurts even more that we couldn't take advantage of it.

BTW, I don't even think this years superbowl can top the mediocrity of Superbowl 35.

We weren't getting around the Saints offens no matter how you slice it.

I agree to a certain degree. I'd say the salary cap didn't start effecting those great teams till about 5 years or so after it was implemented. Those 90s Broncos teams were around during the salary cap era but they were very good football teams. But the last 6-7 years? Horrible.

Horrible??? Please. Last years' teams in the SB were horrible, I agree. But calling all of them horrible is quite a stretch in my opinion. Lets look at the last 7 years of the SB:

AFC:
Ravens (Best defense ever IMO. Def. a good team, despite their offense
Patriots (Came out of nowhere, was a inferior team, but their gameplan won them the game)
Radiers (Prolific offense, and good defense, but played against a team that knew their whole playbook)
Patriots (Good, not great players, but the best gameplanning coach ever.)
Patriots (Same as above)
Steelers (Good defense, but not SB quality. Got lucky anyway)
Colts/Patriots

NFC:
Giants (Horrible, I agree with you)
Rams (Clearly had the most talent, but were outcoached, and lacked discipline)
Bucs (Great defense, and knew the Raiders playbook due to Gruden. Not very good)
Panthers (Good overall team, but they just didnt seem SB quality
Eagles (Same as above)
Seahawks (Again, same as above, they just are not SB quality)

Ok now out of these 14 teams, just in my opinion, I would say maybe 4 teams are horrible. The rest are good teams in my opinion, with only a select few as great, "elite" teams. But I would hardly call the SB teams horrible.

I haven't seen a good Super Bowl in God knows how long

Rams Titans? Mike Jones stops Dyson 1 yard short of first SB going into OT???
Patriots Rams? Brady engineers a game winning drive with 50 some sec left, which leads to Vinnys FG.
Patriots Panthers? Vinny kicks another GW FG with 4 sec left?

I dont get why everybody thinks Super Bowls have been terrible as of late. I enjoyed all those recent SB's, even though Championship weekend is much better than SB weekend.

You could put all 4 of these playoff rosters together ..... and the early 90's Cowboys would destroy them .....

That is the difference in the league today and 10 years ago.

My god I disagree with you 1000%, and I hope you're joking. You are blinded by homerism if serious. Yeah lets face Brady, with Harrison, Wayne, Reggie Bush, and then on defense face Urlacher, Bruschi, Briggs, and Bob Sanders. I'm sorry but that is a ridiculous claim. We would not destroy a team with the 4 playoff rosters together.

Agreed - they were all great games. Why anyone would thing the Superbowls of late are terrible is questionable. There was a time when they were boring, but not in the last several years.

You make some somewhat decent points David, but it really does come off as sour grapes ;) .

And remember folks, the last time people were talked about a low rated Super Bowl, with low rated teams, it produced one of the best Super Bowls in recent memory, that being Panthers/Patriots.

Also, the Bears have a menacing defense that forces turnovers left and right and over in the AFC, regardless of who wins, you will get to see one of the Greatest QBs in History in action.

Who cares what team is the worst ever...All I want is a good exciting game to watch. Two weeks of hype is more than anyone should have to put up with.

no matter what combination of teams ends up playing in two weeks, this will be one of (if not THE) weakest pairings of teams ever

all 4 of these teams are painfully average and have numerous holes

parity at its best

David

Gee, They said SEattle and Pittsburgh were the worst last year.

This mentality is why parity reigns today... And I'm not saying I disagree with it.

The fact is if your team isn't in the Super Bowl, you're going to prefer an exciting close game. And for the most part, SBs in the salary cap era have been pretty good. Some of the best finishes ever have been recently... With Vinatieri's FG against the Rams and the Titans being oh so close.

But if you are a diehard fan of say the Cowboys, and have grown up watching their dynastic runs in the 70s and 90s, the thought of a dynasty conjures up good memories.

The Pats are a dynasty no doubt, but for the most part, the carousel of player rosters through free agency ruins the continuity of a franchise. The Pats aren't a dynasty in the classic sense, they're a dynasty because of genius coaching. Dynasties typically had the same players at key positions. Every year NE has no WRs, a pretty thin secondary, and lose key guys, but they keep coming back.

It makes Belichick seem like even more of a genius... which is why he may just be the best ever.

Um, Pats don't look like weaklings to me. Don't be fooled by their lack of Pro Bowl nominees.
