2007 Draft Bust Predictions

Swap Bowe with Jarrett and I can see this. I understand the injury questions, but I would toss Lynch in here too. Only because I think he seems WAY overhyped on this board.

I agree on Lynch

The Bust will be Jerry Jones if Ginn's there at 22 and he doesn't pick him.

Do the right thing Jerry if given the chance.:D

Dwayne Bowe ... he played with a QB that's going to go #1 in the draft, Craig Davis who is a 2nd round pick and a Early Doucet who will be a 1st round pick next year. Think that might have helped him just a tad? Did this guy ever have to face a defense that was designed to stop Dwayne Bowe? Bowe looks tight, stiff and unfluid. I hate players that underperform for most of their college career and then have a big Senior season. It tells me they don't pick things up quickly and the game doesn't come natural for them. Is it going to take them 3 years before they pick up the pro game?

Jarvis Moss ... except for the fact that he has character flags, very little college production, a medical history a mile long and the body strength of a 14 year old girl, I really love this guy.

Aaron Ross and Michael Griffin ... These two were considered to be disappointments in college for the most part. Michael Griffin couldn't hold Michael Huff's jockstrap, and Huff was a big disappointment for the Raiders last year. Aaron Ross ...see the Dwayne Bowe example above about how I hate players who don't show up until their Senior Year.

Levi Brown - I saw Lamar Woodley eat his lunch all day long.

Dewayne Jarrett - Big, slow, Pac 10 WR's have a very, very, very poor track record.

Huh? How did Bowe underperform before his senior season?

2004 - 597
2005 - 710
2006 - 990

Looks like solid production from a young guy that steadily improved. It's not like he came out of nowhere like Meachem did in his final year. Maybe you were thinking of Meachem.

And that 2004 number was with LSU switching out QBs between a 2nd year Marcus Randall and a 1st year JaMarcus Russell.

And of course you conveniently forget that the guy had eye surgery. I'm not sure whether you've ever tried to play football in contacts, but it's brutal. A little sweat and movement and you can't see a thing. He fixed his vision and it fixed his drops.

And playing with 2 other really good WRs? That's a double-edged sword. Yes, teams had to cover those other WRs, but those WRs also took passes away from Bowe. Their offense spread the ball around. It's quite a feat to get 1000 yards in college with two other really good WRs taking catches away from you. He was a clear #1 WR on a team with 3 potential #1 WRs in the NFL. How is that a bad thing?

Jamarcus Russell if he goes to Oakland.

Calvin Johnson if he goes to Oakland

Brady Quinn if he goes to Oakland.

(fill in the blank) if he goes to Oakland

All I know is Bowe was thought to be a 4th round pick heading into this year and he was considered to be a disappointment at LSU until this year.

Are you his agent?

I'm just a guy that scratches his head when he sees ridiculous posts.

Meachem wasn't even considered a 4th rounder coming into this season. Russell wasn't considered a #1 overall. Calvin Johnson was considered a 1st rounder, but he wasn't the consensus best player that he is now.

Quentin Moses was considered a lock in the first round. Chris Houston was considered a late first day/early 2nd day pick.

Things change. Some guys improve their stock because they *gasp* play very well on the field.

I'm not sure a wide receiver is a bust simply because he wasn't a consensus 1st rounder since his freshman year.

I'm with you on Bowe. Personally, I think the tools that Bowe has makes him the second best receiver in this draft. Bowe lacks top speed, but he has very good hands, is big at 6'3 220lbs, and strong. His route running skills a abit lacking, but running routes can be taught. Speed isn't the be-all end-all of a WR though it doesn't hurt. Jerry Rice; the greatest receiver of all time wasn't a speedster.

I'm not a huge Meachem fan either, but Meachem is also a junior and is younger than Bowe.

You're right. Things change. Something tells me if Bowe had another year of eligibility and had played with Russell's replacement next year, Bowe goes back to being a 3rd round draft pick in the 2008 draft.

Actually, Flynn and Perillouix are pretty good. It'll be interesting to see who wins that battle.

Flynn performed well in spot duty over the past 2 year. One of Bowe's TDs in 2006 actually came from Flynn.

Peterson will likely start with a brilliant career, but eventually his body won't take it. Maybe 2-3 good looking seasons, but will never put it all together for a great career.

Sounds similar to Terry Allen...

or Cadillac Williams.

I think Bowe just needed and needs more development. Like I said before, the only thing he lacks that can't be taught is speed. Speed doesn't determine if you are a good or great receiver. This is a major reason I wouldn't draft Ginn in the first round. He could end up being a Santana Moss type player. If your intent is shutting him down, he is a goner. If you forget about him, his speed will kill you. This is why Moss' career as been off and on. He kills someone, then they key on him and he goes quiet. Then after he hasn't made any noise in awhile, someone forgets about him, and he drops 150 yards and 2 TDs on them. I think Bowe can be far more consistent because he has strength, size, and hands. He can be taught to run better routes.

Just for the record, Bowe ran a 4.40 at his Pro Day. Beyond that, his game speed is pretty good.

People talk about his speed as if he runs in the 4.6s or 4.7s. He doesn't have Ted Ginn speed, but he's certainly not as slow as Dwayne Jarrett.

Ah, I had him at 4.52 40. Which isn't blazing fast, but it's faster than I ran the 40 in highschool. (4.6)

That's pretty fast. I never timed, but I don't think I'd be anywhere near a 4.6.

Bowe ran a 4.51 at the Combine and a 4.40 at his Pro Day.

There was a thread once where I posted a clip of his where he ran a 35 yard post route, some of which was at half speed, in just over 4 seconds based on the game clock. He's got the game speed.
