I didn't watch much college football this year and I would prefer to get a young stud on the offensive side of the ball, but I was blown away at some of the Glen Dorsey highlights I saw. I expect Canty and Spears to play better but if Dorsey is as good as people say, He might just be too good to pass up.

I think the decision has already been made within the organization to replace him after 07. You DO NOT let your "franchise" player hit FA and Jeryy Jones CERTAINLY does not. They have made absolutely NO attempts to even talk extension. He will hit the FA market and he will be gone.
agree - if not McFadden, I hope we draft the next best, come '09.
We still need a strong running game even in a new pass friendly offence.

You could be right but if Jones has a very good year Jerry will have a decision to make. Besides it would be more feasible to keep Jones because Mcfadden will want Reggie Bush money (5-6 yrs 53 million) add that to resigning Newman and Romo and that could be tough and the only way we will sniff Mcfadden if we are in the top 3 picks and I don't see that happening.

I think that the Cowboys will make a run at Micheal Turner in FA next year. He knows the system and knows Philips. Next year I see Barber and Turner in the backfield.

Juluis won't have the big year most hope and think because he will be splitting carries and losing the redzones to Barber. JJ may hit 1000 yards again but won't have many TD's.

I would like Turner but I think Jones is in for a big year.

Okay, so I know most of us are salivating over the thought of getting Darren McFadden with Cleveland's pick. So assuming that pick is still a top 10 pick but McFadden is not plausible for one reason or another, who are your next 3 hopefuls on the shopping list.

Mine are...

1. Antoine Cason, CB, Arizona, 6'0", 185...in this case it is not a homer pick because I live here. I think this guy is the best CB prospect in the draft, the best ever from UA (yep, even over Chris McAllister), and a perfect bookend for Terence Newman. He's blazing fast, recovers really quick, and is a ball hawk. Pac 10 teams simply will not challenge him.

2. Calais Campbell, DE, Miami, 6'8", 282...wait until you get a look at this kid. Reminds me a bit of Too Tall, but isn't as thick. Is faster than Too Tall. Has a great swim move and a good rip. If Chris Canty, Jason Hatcher, and Marcus Spears don't make big leaps forward this year he may be #1 instead of #2.

3. Jake Long, OT, Michigan, 6'7", 313...before he committed to go back to Michigan, I was kind of hoping he'd be our pick. I really like Doug Free and James Marten and can see them as potential bookend OTs for years. This guy is a no doubt about it to me. I couldn't turn that down. OL is never sexy, but it is vital to winning. This guy will take his job seriously and personal.

I really like the idea of the Cowboys getting a dominant left tackle. It may not be sexy to most, but it sure gives me a tingle.:)

Hey my friend, good talking to to you as usual. In my opinion, I think it will be hard for JJ to have a big year like I stated earlier. Splitting carries with Barber will decrease his value when it comes time to give him a contract. It's hard to to expect Jones to have a " Big" year with these factors. :starspin

WEll it's just MHO but i think JJ is as good as gone, so that makes RB the most important position to fill. Then WR. We will see what our crying needs are after the season, but i'm sure DT and DB will be right up there. WE can always keep Flo if we had to. If we don't get McFadden...

1.Steve Slaton, RB, West Virginia
2.DeSean Jackson, WR, California
3.Jake Long, OT, Michigan

The only reaon i take Long over Brohm is i think Tony is th man and will get a long term deal in a matter of weeks.

This is my list as well!!!!!!!!!! Of course things could easily change by next year, but for now this is what I am looking at. WE NEED JUICE on Offense. Our future has to be set on Defense with as much Draft Picks and FA we have put into it. Our Offense needs dynamic young players inserted.
Slaton tops that list for me. I am tired already of hearing people say he is just a speed player. Bull, he has vision, makes cuts, has great hands and reminds me of a Dorsett/Faulk clone. Slaton would bring the same kind of threat as Westbrook does for the Eagles.

You know I am a big Marion Barber fan but I think everything is set up for Jones to really have a big year, contract year, bashing Parcells, better line and Jason Garrett will see just what he's about.

That maybe true but I think we maybe passing the ball more. Jerry Jones told everybody that he interviewed that they have to get the Dam ball to T.O.

I think JJ will have a solid season but can't see him having 1200 Yards.

I would take Cason 1st if we could get Clemson's James Davis w/ our 2nd, 1st round pick

but for me, if not McFadden, then Steve Slaton

I will be salivating over all of the top CBs and WRs come draft time next year. I think those are easily our two biggest positions of need, looking at the roster right now. Early Doucet, Mario Manningham, and Cason are all names I could be clamoring for.

if Mario comes out, he's definitely at the top of my list too

I'm actually hoping that next season goes so well that we end up keeping Julius. If thats the case then IMO our next glaring needs are WR and CB. Smaller WR's have proven to be effective in the NFL, and so Desean Jackson's speed is impressive.

I've never heard of Antoine Cason before, but I've heard some pretty convincing things so far.

It's too early to pick certain players IMO although there's nothing wrong in thinking about who you would take now if the draft were held tomorrow.

McFadden is just another way of saying we want an impact player at the RB position. Which I'm all for. JJ could have a very good year and get resigned. Hard to say right now. Too many variables for me.

Again I agree we need to use one of our number ones on a sexy pick. QB depends on the contract we give to Romo and how he does. It's possible we could use both picks to trade up and take a player including a QB. Hopefully we won't need to.

RB is certainly a possibility. Should be one in the top ten next year.

I don't have any problem at all with getting a franchise OT. Agreed, not sexy but its practical and just good sense. Depends on Flo for the most part. I don't see us going after one if Flo sticks though. But I can make an argument for one even if we resign him although I'd rather make the opposite argument.

A WR is very high on my list. For obvious reasons.

CB is likely and S could return to our wish or even must list.

And DT may be a priority.

We are so talented right now IMO we should really be able to take the BPA next year. Depends on injuries and how well certain individuals do this year. First time in a long while I've thought we should really take the best player on our board. But then Jerry has a penchant for not sitting still. I honestly think he enjoys wheelin and dealin so much it's hard for him to sit on his hands.

Guess this doesn't answer the initial post but I just find it hard to predict this early.

Oh but if we have to choose a RB and DMac is off the board, Ray Rice gets my vote all the way. Disclaimer: this is a 46% homer vote.

I think Ray Rice is the second best back in next years draft. He has that bowling ball build that will give him that low center of gravity. Her will IMO be the next great running back other than Mcfadden.
