I'd like to be more excited/optimistic but I think it'd take some personnel changes to shore up the secondary, first and foremost.

Maybe it's because I'm a ..ya know.. a Cowboys fan or something, but for some reason, I am really excited about the potential of this year's defense.

1. Ellis for a full season
2. Tank for a full season w/experience in this defense.
3. Spencer going into his 2nd year.
4. Zach Thomas bringing some needed leadership.
5. Draft/Pacman/??? - something good happening there?
6. Campo as DB coach..better than Bowles IMO.
7. Campo working with RW..can he coach him back to rookie season form?
8. Most importantly, the players will now have the benefit of playing in the same system for a year.

I think these are solid reasons to have confidence that the 2008 Phillips D is going to be a good one.

I think they will be very solid too

Thanks everybody. I went through a period of depression abot what could have been this last season, but maybe it just wasn't meant to be. Maybe the dissappointment of this last season will be the catalyst for 2008.

My 2 cents. Roy's problem is more mental than anything. The rule change, the penalties etc did him in. Don't know if Campo can solve that. I'm exited about the competition at LB with guys like Carpenter, Spencer and Burnett all vying for PT. Looking forward to see the competion at the DL where I can see Hatcher & Johnson finding their way to the starting lineup. I look forward to see all the 3rd year guys on D: Watkins, Hatcher, Bowen, & Carpenter. This is their make or break year IMO.

I believe that in addition to bringing Campo back is the hiring of Brett Maxie. Hopefully he will help make the safety position a better coverage unit. Maxie has been very successful at helping the previous teams get picks and improved play from that position. I really hope that Hamlin continues his strong play from last season, as well as Williams finding his way back from the doghouse he seems to have found himself in.

I think most of the improvement will come from the players being comfortable in the system, and Wade being more comfortable with the players he puts on the field. I look for even more stunting and blitzing, but we better find a CB who can go mano-a-mano. I think Hamlin and Roy will do fine. We have a great rotation on the DLine. We're young, we're deep, and we're hungry. Eli, Campbell, McNabb, et al - we're comin' for ya'!!!!!!
