So who plays this position for us next year?

Zach has said he won't be back, Burnett will IMO be overpaid by someone in free agency, and Carpenter can't play. So in my mind, we need not just a starter, but a backup as well.

I'm assuming we'll draft an ILB fairly high, which is pretty exciting. But assuming the rookie won't be able to play right away -- unless we get very lucky -- we need a reasonably-priced free agent vet to come in and play right away for us.

Any ideas on who that might be?

well if we can actually draft a smart player and a film rat why can't he play right away for us? Jerod Mayo started for the Patriots this season. Lofa Tatupu started as a rookie in the seahawks superbowl year in 2005.

Why would someone "overpay" for Burnett? He's never seen the field on a consistant basis.

Odds are we re-sign him and we draft someone, or bring in a middle-tier free agent to compete.

IMO Burnett is no good, so someone giving him even a moderate contract would constitute overpaying.

I hope we don't offer him much of anything. He's always hurt, and from some things I've read from him over the years, he's more interested in getting paid than being a great player. But I wouldn't be surprised if a crappy 43 team takes a shot on him.

My question was about who the middle-tier free agent you mentioned might be.

And to Rampage... A rookie who plays right away would be ideal. But I'm sure we'll patch the hole in FA before the draft, because we can't count on the draft falling right for us.

I like Zach but Im glad he isnt coming back we definately need to get more athletic at LB.

Bart Scott from Balt

I was watching him during the last game and he brings it

I cant see Balt letting Lewis or Suggs getting away, so Scott falls out

maybe this is just my wishful thinking taking over but does baltimore spend big money on suggs, big money on lewis at age 33/34 and let bart scott (28?) go? i would think that bart might be more the priority given his youth and ray's age. will ray be willing to take a discount to remain in baltimore if it's less money than scott?

IMO RL is exactly what we need, a leader that will make everyone accountable and keep them motivated. and he was a bit coy on the MI show when asked about it before the raven game....one can only dream....

Maualuga's recent run in with Erin Andrews will cause his draft stock to plummet....right into our laps. Book it!

he could teach our linebackers how to hit a qb when they sack them

I like that kid a lot. The FS from USC is also pretty darn good but there is absolutely zero way that Dallas could possibly wind up with both of them.

trust me living here in Baltimore Scott is overrated and is nothing without Ray and Suggs.
I would go after Ray because we need a guy like him in the locker room

he's 235 lbs. already. he will be Roy Williams version 2.0 once he puts on more weight in the NFL. plus he wasn't half the player Roy was in college. he will probably turn into a lb in a 4-3 defense.
