IMO Burnett is no good, so someone giving him even a moderate contract would constitute overpaying.

I hope we don't offer him much of anything. He's always hurt, and from some things I've read from him over the years, he's more interested in getting paid than being a great player. But I wouldn't be surprised if a crappy 43 team takes a shot on him.

My question was about who the middle-tier free agent you mentioned might be.

To be honest, I have no idea what free agents will be available or worth pursuing.

I like Burnett though. While he is a tad injury prone, I think he is a playmaker and a good coverage linebacker.

I don't think Ray Lewis would come to Dallas because he'd go insane with our teams lack of interest in being winners. Ray lives and breaths football. Our guys live and breath spotlight and attention.

This is fantasy, but if we got Brian Dawkins and Ray Lewis... the attitude in the lockerroom would change considerably.

trust me living here in Baltimore Scott is overrated and is nothing without Ray and Suggs.
I would go after Ray because we need a guy like him in the locker room

Forget about the big name guys we will be looking just for that a solid pro player like scott after signing Demarcus to a big deal it is going to be modest priced FA and nothing more.

That last thing this team needs is another freakin ego we need some workmen like players that make plays here and there and known where those suppose to be on the field

I think Ray would play here, and there's no doubt he'd whip these guys into shape, but I don't think we can afford much more than cheap journeyman types at this point.

Some FA linebackers are (if the lists I see are right -- sometimes they aren't updated):

Karlos Dansby (probably also too expensive)
Mike Peterson (old and probably cheap, not sure what he has left)
Bart Scott (might get a ton from someone)
Channing Crowder (at Miami -- I liked him a lot coming out)
LeRoy Hill (maybe a possibility? We liked him at the draft and he might not cost too much)

Interesting list. I like all those guys. Crowder has a history of knee injuries, doesn't he? Seems like he was drafted recently... I can't believe he's going to be a free agent already.

Dansby is a guy I liked coming out of college, and appearantly he's had a very good year in Arizona.

Peterson is smallish, isn't he? But I guess so was ZT. If he can play, he can play - bottom line.

Brian Cushing...although he's a little tall and lean for the inside.

Tall, big school, and from Jersey... I figure you can go ahead and put a fish on his hat. :)

In the draft, a few guys who won't go too high and caught my eye are Darry Beckwith from LSU, Jason Phillips from TCU, and later, Ben Owens from Arky State. Phillips seems like one of those pure football players and he's started since he was a freshman for a very tough, defensive-minded coach. Owens is big, fast, and seemingly very smart... And he's from Jerry's state, of course.

I've never watched these guys, though, and I'm always a little wary going off these internet reports.

If Brandon Spikes slips into the second round, I hope we make a serious attempt at trading up for him.

A few mid-round guys I like: Daniel Holtzclaw, Scott Mckillop and Worrell Williams.

I like Spikes, too... Just doubted he'd last that long.

Saw McKillop and Williams on the draft sites... What are they like? Isn't Williams kind of small? Granted, this is the smaller LB of the two, but still.

Maybe we can trade for Akin Ayodele! I bet Miami would let us have him for, say, a fourth-rounder!

Williams is 6-2 and 250. He dropped off a little this year from '07, but he's the sideline to sideline kind of tackler you want at the weak ILB position in Wade's scheme. He was actually a weak side LB before he moved to the middle as a sophomore.

Mckillop is 6-2, 245. He just flat produced: 114 tackles, 14.5 TFL, 4 sacks, three passes defensed and an INT returned for a TD. He had 151 tackles in '07.

Both of these guys seem like quintessential 3-4 WILB to me, especially Mckillop. They're both good athletes, have good size (a lot bigger than Burnett) and run in the high 4.6's. I think either one can be had in the 3-4 range and can start from day one.

sorry but with Jerry that is what you will get. i would love for Ray to come in for a couple years and teach some football to these guys. I just can't see them letting anyone on that D go. When they let Adalius Thomas go that hurt them and I think they will do all they can to keep them all. JMO
