New attitude, new stadium, new workout regime and no T.O. – it’s now or never for Tony Romo.

Everything you read and hear about Romo is that he remains straddling the line between good and great. He obviously has more than enough talent to compete in the NFL, as his career numbers (10,562 yards, 81 TDs, 46 INTs, 94.7 QB Rating) certainly indicate. But he’s been called out for not being enough of a leader and his overall workout habits have come into question now as well.

According to a report by the Dallas Star-Telegram, Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett had a “come to Jesus meeting” with Romo about his conditioning habits. Garrett instructed his quarterback to not only get into good enough shape to allow him to have another fast start, but the kind of the shape that won’t allow him to wear down as the season progresses.

Team personnel have noticed that Romo tends to break down towards the end seasons because he’s not in good enough shape physically when he enters camp. He makes more mistakes as the season progresses because his legs get heavy and he loses mental focus.

Romo apparently has used this offseason to work on all of his weaknesses, including being a more vocal leader and getting into the best shape of his career. While becoming a leader isn’t something that one can practice (leading is more something you’re born with), getting into better condition is something that can be attained and it looks like Romo is on his way to improving in that area.

As previously noted, the Cowboys released wideout Terrell Owens this offseason. Speculation has it that Romo was one of the people within the organization that was championing for T.O. to get the boot and whether that’s true or not is irrelevant at this point. All that matters is that Owens is gone and now all eyes are on Romo to get this team to the next level.

Romo is essentially out of excuses; he has more than enough talent around him to win and doesn’t have the distractions that Owens brought to the table in the past. If he is straddling the line between good and great, then this is the season for him to cross over the threshold and never look back. Quarterbacks like Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger know what it takes not only to be efficient signal callers, but to also get their team to rise up in the fourth quarter and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. If Romo doesn’t want to be considered as just another good quarterback who can’t win in the clutch, he needs to put everything on his shoulders this season and the Cowboys over the hump.

Not only that, he references the "Dallas Star-Telegram". Last I checked, there was a Dallas Morning News and a Fort Worth Star Telegram, but no Dallas Star-Telegram...what a goober.

I liked how this has gotten out of hand. He sure looked out of shape, heavy legged, out of breath when he eluded steelers defenders to throw a TD pass to TO or almost throw a left handed one to Roy.

And he sure looked out of shape getting out the pocket with a bad back against the Giants to throw a strike to Crayton last year.

Or maybe it was how slow he was when he ran for that 1st down and bounced of kosier on that play in the playoff game in 07.

How about all the sacks he made moves to avoid in the Baltimore game this year?

Much ado about nothing already

He needs to drink more milk and work on getting his finger bones stronger.

He can also work on that rib cartilage. Everytime I see his fat rib cartilage and his weak finger-bones I think 'this is not the shape I want to see in my 'franchise' quarterback.'

Instead of looking up names of Dallas papers maybe the writer was busy tryin to find Romo career playoff wins...

I have yet to find an article that is written where the author fully understands that Romo will be our QB in 2010, regardless of how 2009 plays out. I don't get it.

Romo is essentially out of excuses? I don't recall Romo making any excuses for anything. I also do not think his career hinges on this season alone

I could say this exact same thing for a couple of other NFCEast qb's.

Ouch.

Has anyone, who claims that this is a "amke or break" year for Romo, actually looked at his contract?

Romo's not going anywhere.

I completely disagree with its "now or never" for Romo.

If we dont win and go deep we may make some drastic changes next year, but Romo is our QB through thick and thin

What a stupid article. How can this sports journalist justify his salary with this piece of garbage?
So i guess the reason we play crappy in December has been because romo has heavy legs and is out of shape by then? If you want to make the argument that a RB can break down i may buy that. But a QB? If your QB is breaking down then you need to look at your offensive line and the protection schemes. It means your QB has been knocked senseless for the first 3/4 of the season and now he feels beat up and the pressure gets to him.

And Romo isnt going anywhere. The journalist should be ashamed to label this make or break. When he is already made and there is no possibility of break.

I agree.
Compared to what we've had the last decade or so, Romo is a godsend. My guess is that 20-25 NFL teams would trade who they have for Romo today if asked. Furthermore, who would replace him?

Yes. It's hard to have a 'make or break' season when you've been 'made' for the last three years.
