Who has one?

There MIGHT be 1 or 2 difference making S's in the league.

Other than that it's a JAG position.

Polamalu
Ed Reed
Darren Sharper
Nick Collins
Antoine Bethea
Brian Dawkins
Antrel Rolle
OJ Atogwe
Adrian Wilson
Brandon Meriweather
Roman Harper
Bob Sanders (when healthy)
Eric Berry

and if you want to include safeties I'd prefer to ours:
Dawan Landry
Laron Landry
Kenny Phillips
Chris Hope
Eric Weddle
Louis Delmas
Jarrad Page

and that's just off the top of my head. I'm sure that list grows if I went and looked at everyone's depth chart. Just because we treat it as a jag position doesn't mean it has to be.

If we had a real ballhawk back there with our current Front 7 we would get a lot more turnovers.

And yet of the teams you listed the Ravens and Pittsburgh are probably the only teams with a D better than ours.

If I felt like taking the time to poke holes in your list I would, but do you really consider Roman Harper an impact safety?

He's really stepped up lately (Sharper's influence?)

I love, love, love our defense. The front 7 and the 2 cornerbacks. I just wish we had something at safety. I think if they can find some CB depth next year they should consider Scandrick moving to safety. He's a (too)willing hitter and I think he has a lot more tha skill than Alan Ball.

Can have Pro Bowlers at every position.

Try to fill all your needs with high picks and if they are any good you're losing them in FA

Case and point see Niners.

3 first rounders and 2 seconds on the OL right now. Lost Smiley in FA and they weren't happy with him anyways. Bass went top of 2 and has been a complete disappointent. Staley, Iupati, AD all first rounders. How many of those do you think they keep when it comes time for FA? AD has given up 3-5 sacks already anyways.

Long-term in cap era you can't afford to go expensive on OL or S. If it's a true difference maker, yes.....but other than that you have to pay the skill, front seven and CB's.

I'm guessing you meant Can't?

I agree.

We have guys like Bradie James, Keith Brooking, Igor Olshansky, and Marcus Spears who are very solid and just do their job. Anthony Spencer isn't a Pro Bowler but is nearing that level. Newman (most days), Jenkins, Ware, and Ratliff are the only standout Pro-Bowlers.

We didn't have to nor should we settle for sub-par play from our safeties. I don't see the fatuation some have with Sensabaugh. He is always chasing his man and gets beat regularly by TE's. Ball is a huge ZERO. I like AOA's potential but the staff seems to have moved him back to CB. We really need to finally address the Safety position next off-season.

Resign Spears, Kosier, Sensy.

I'd rather we draft Pitt DE George Romeus in the 1st round.

He would be a 3-4 OLB that would never see the field......

On top of that he just had back surgery.

He didn't have a first round grade last year.

What makes you think he will this year when he isn't playing?

Isn't he like 6'6" 270 though?

Yes, and all of our 3-4 DE's are north of 300.

He's nothing remotely close to a 3-4 DE.

Ware is 6'4 262 and Spencer is 6'3 262, right now Romeus looks more like them, then any of our d-lineman

1) Mike Pouncey C/G Florida (Barron)

2) Deunta Williams FS UNC (Ball/Hamlin)

3) John Moffitt G/C Wisconsin (Costa/Holland/Kosier)

4) Ian Williams 3-4 DE Notre Dame (Hatcher)

5) Cedric Thornton 3-4 DE Southern Arkansas (Bowen)

6) Greg McElroy QB Alabama (Kitna/Mcgee or keep 4)

7a) Darrin Walls CB Notre Dame (camp numbers - PS)

7b) Rob McGill OT La Tech (camp numbers - PS)

If Mcdaniel is there in the 1st, we better take him. I'd say safety is the most important position on defense, or one of. A team with a true safety almost always had a good defense. And that Mcdaniel kid is going to be really special. Ball is no good, AOA is a corner.
