2014 to 2018

no question about that. however, he seems to re relinquishing more and more control to Stephen. it's about time.
Fans are just assuming that Jerry isn’t capable of making sounder decisions with better influence. He has before with Bill and Jimmy.

the reality of things in dallas is that the front office is Stephen and jerry. jerry said dez would be a cowboy in 2018. why would he make such a ridiculous statement only to let dez go a couple of months later. easiest answer is Stephen put his foot down and said if he's to be director of player personnel, then let him do his job. jerry relented. same for the tony decision.
Or it’s because Jerry is always promoting his product going with the public wave.

He was supportive of Dez coming back until the public sentiment swayed against him. Jerry’s not afraid to put himself out there to measure the public pulse.

Much like with Romo. Jerry knew he had to go with the public support of Dak. So much he was better off losing in playoffs with Dak than taking a chance winning with Romo even though most knew Romo provided us a better shot to advance.

This is the conflict of interest wearing the hat of both the owner and GM that will continue to stifle this organization on these bigger decisions.

Different players, younger players, better players...same 3 in charge, HC, OC, DC....doesn't sound encouraging to me.
Show me on the field coaching staff, show me on the field.

So true, the biggest problems (impediments) to us winning are still roaming our sidelines.

I thought the 2014 team was the best team we’ve had since 2007.

Just a tad more pass rush and we were playing in championship. I can’t help wonder if Ware might have been the difference? Jerry even said as much.

The right moves in managing the Cap, etc are only good if they’re the right personnel decisions and why results matter. Otherwise we’re just patting ourselves on the back for nothing.

Whatever restraint Jerry is making won’t last without better results . He’ll become impatient and begin taking risk.

Greg hardy. Randy Gregory. Jaylon Smith. Better influences??? Or Jerry being jerry???

Was hardy promoting the team or crisis management desperation to win at any cost. Same with Gregory with his prior history of drug use. Team promotion??? Or crisis management again??? This is one instance where I hope the Apple fell very far from the tree.

As usual we want to blame Jerry for poor decisions and credit someone else for the better decisions.

“ you have to convince Jerry to go against his instincts”. Parcells

Ultimately Jerry is still making the decision.

this is Jerrys team and hes run it his way for decades, his kids run it more or less his way
i honestly would not be surprised if when Jerry rips that many things outside his direct will may change though
maybe Stephen envisions himself more hands off or just lets a guy like McClay actually be the GM
its not that far fetched to believe
Stephen loves the competition committee, for all we know he may want to be commissioner some day

Stephen is in the same position and role he’s always had with Cowboys.

When did these better decisions your speaking of begin? About 2011?

think its more committee these days, hes given his kids most control but i think when theres no clear cut decision Jerry makes the call
we see this more and more
they still let Jerry ramble and have his face time, he handles stuff like cutting Dez but its all already decided one way or the other
i mean, he does still own everything

I'm not blaming Jerry for anything. Just commenting on some rather significant decisions involving major players the last few years. Decisions not typical of Jerry. Each of us is free to glean from recent events what we will.

Correct. Hardy was impatience, crisis mgmt. & risk taking. All wrapped up in one. Gregory was more risk.

Even with Ireland and Parcells where here Jerry would look to them and was pretty much the deciding vote when there was not an overall consensus. As BP said Jerry listens to those he has hired.

Jerry has released big name players in the past. Like Emmitt comes to mind. He was going to release Troy too but he frustratingly retired when he saw it coming.

I firmly believe in building a team through the draft and we have done a great job of doing that overall. The problem with that is, we will never be able to build a complete team fast enough before normal attrition rates, losing players through injury, retirements, being unable or unwilling to resign homegrown players etc. It's very unrealistic to be able to hit on enough draft picks consistently year after year to make it possible.

The FO really needs to improve in acquiring players in the other two phases, free agency and trades. This team has to get better in finding players in FA, that doesn't mean big splashy signings or vastly overpaying, but being able to find players that can upgrade a certain position, rotation or provide effective backup, especially in areas of vulnerability. The team has struggled in this.

The other area of player acquisition is in trades. Again, I'm not talking about big splashy trades, but again being able to find effective players to help fill our weaknesses or needs or being able to trade for more draft capital.

Correct.. Jerry has shown with better advice he can make better decisions. Like with Jimmy, then Bill and now it appears with Jason.

Stephen, working closely with will mcclay began to start putting more of his stamp on the draft around that time.. But it is only these last 2 years that I've seen a discernible shift of power.

excellent, now i know how Bengal and Browns fans feel and read.

Hey guys, this year is going to be better than last year, all we have to say is "GO CowbrownBengals" and we re next year champs.

“ putting more of his stamp” is a subjective narrative you’ve chosen or is being used. There’s been nothing official that a baton has been passed down.

2016 i think was 'The Year' Dallas closely resembled Seattles championship team
Seattle being defense and Dallas offense of course

Seattle had all pro level talent on rookie salaries on the dline, linebacker, corner and safety
they had Wilson playing for beans but there was a clear window, it was easy to see these guys were going to get paid and they couldnt keep them all

Dallas had all pro talent across the oline, Zeke playing elite on his rookie contract and Dak had a historically great season
you had Dez and Witten plus Beasley i think was the top nfl slot receiver

on defense they really only had Lee though

2016 was the year it should have happened and now they are rebuilding sections of the team
can they return to that form before the cap hits
i see a window of opportunity with Tyron Martin Travis and Lee
