2015: Cornerback(s) needed

We need to address CB for 2015/16 season I believe, since the quality of Mo's game is in question (and recovery from injury), and Carr may or may not be on the team next year with his salary (and current level of game play). I think for sure we will draft a CB in the top 3 rounds this year and will probably draft another as well in the later rounds IMO. Not to mention undrafted rookies.
I hate overpaying in free agency, but for the sake of starting to think on this, what CBs are scheduled to be free agents after this season?

We need talented front seven players more than cornerbacks.

I rather draft a cornerback in the third through fifth rounds. Case-in-point Scandrick and Richard Sherman.

Look at how Dallas invested draft picks on the oline and see the current results. The same will happen if Jerry drafts good Dlinemen and LBs.

If that happens I guarntee a Super Bowl if Romo is healthy.

I have to disagree, I look at our front 7 right now, and assuming we can bring back most of them (could be a hard task, but I think we should be fine) and I see a lot of talent there. DLaw, Crawford, Melton, Selvie isn't a half bad D-line, maybe need a replacement for Selvie and some depth but the other 3 are really good and you can find a replacement for Selvie a bit later. Same with our linebackers, Durant, Lee, McClain, Carter, and Hitchens... whichever 3-4 we keep are going to be pretty good, and if we can find a way to keep all 5 there aren't even that many depth issues. Our secondary on the other hand, Church and Wilcox can both play... but they both belong at SS not FS and it is showing this year. Scandrick can still play, but we are probably cutting Carr lose, and Mo has done nothing for us. So that leaves just guys like Patman and Moore... we need a new safety and CB... 1 at least.

Edit I am assuming Spencer is gone, but if he keeps playing reasonably well and we can't find a good replacement in the draft... that might not be a sure thing. He isn't going to get much anywhere else so he might come back here cheap.

i suspect cb will be high on the list as will dline help. but which you take when will depend on who is avaible when you pick. if we keep melton and have brent, crawford and company inside thats a solid group. we need another edge rusher i think but again it's gonna come down to who you can get at the bottom of each round more than any position you would like to pick there. but a cb, de,ot are probably gonna be high on their list. if murray is not resigned a rb will be important to at some point
it's just about taking the best player you can with that top couple of picks and not worrying about the position. thats when you really aquire the best talent

If they cut Carr, they'll need at least a mid level free agent, IMO.

They draft best when they don't try to target a specific position.

Drafting CBs is a good idea in general because it's an expensive position in free agency, but the Cowboys need to have a #1 and #2 set CB before the draft.

Flowers and Cromartie are two FAs. I posted the list of all CBs in another thread a few days ago.

5 CBs were drafted in the 1st round in 2014. CLev Gilbert, Chi Fuller, Cin Dennard, SD Verrett, and Den Roby.

Has Gilbert even cracked the starting lineup? I heard he hasn't been much this year so far.
Fuller has played well, probably the best of the bunch.
Haven't heard much about Dennard. Does he play much?
Verrett hasn't done much. He was injured a lot.
I think Roby just got his first INT last week against Oakland on a pitiful throw.

I have heard just a little on those 5 CBs. And out of the 5, it looks like Fuller is the only one worthy of starting material so far into their rookie seasons. Early yet. Anyone got any info on the 5 CBs and how they are doing so far? Tough t play Cb in the NFL especially as a rookie even if you are a 1st rd pick.

Agreed. Taking a CB early is a good move. :D

Maybe not in round 1... But if a good value CB was there in RD 2 or 3, then I would consider it.

I actually don't agree with that assessment any longer. Dallas DL has gotten better. Lawrence is going to be player. Melton might be best DT in football right now. Crawford is on verge of being star player. You then add into that Josh Brent (who would have been a starter by now if not for accident). Dallas has real depth at DT and rookie DE who is trending up. That leaves 1 DE spot that can be addressed in draft or second tier FA that will compete with Selvie.

Now I think DB is Dallas biggest problem. Carr is nowhere near the player they signed from Chiefs. He doesn't play man or zone well and isn't physical. Moore is a nice back up CB but shouldn't be your starter. Mo is a reserve CB who should be fielding punts and kick off returns as his contribution. That leaves virtually no one for next year. I would promote Patmon to starter when he gets back and go heavy in draft for CB and release Carr.

To keep this germane to the Fan Zone this year this season, we seem to need some CB help now. I've not looked at any numbers for the DBs this year. Do we need to play some non-starters this year more?

His new agent!
