With Romo and Witten being the selections, it's not all that surprising.
The best player on your team and your most vocal? I'd say that's surprising.

Tyron Smith isn't that vocal.
Dez is the best player on the team and he should be acknowledged as a Team Captain especially after signing his new contract.
Dez and Sean Lee came in the same year if Lee is a captain then Dez should be also.
Being vocal and even being the best player are not the qualifications for team captain. Being the QB is and being a long time leader is. If you have an NFL team that votes in captains, and the QB is not one of them, you have a bad NFL team because that means you have a problem at QB. So Romo has to be a given. Secondly, look at this team and seriously tell me you think Jason Witten is not getting voted captain. There are two spots for offense and those are the obvious choices.
If the duties of the captain are to serve as the main communicators with the refs on the field, I don't see where Dez is more qualified for that. Is he the emotional leader of this team? Yes. Can you consider him to be the heart and soul of this offense and a dynamic personality that raises the level of play of everyone around him? Yes. Is he the guy you want walking up to the refs to mediate an issue? No.
So, no not surprising.
You are bringing up arguments for why he's not captain. I'm saying it's surprising that he's not. You can argue that if you want but Dez is one of this teams best players and two years ago when we were getting stomped out almost every week Dez was the only one showing any form of emotion while most of the team looked like the conceded and like they were content.

Actually, I disagree with that. Dez's rah rah stuff can get players pumped. Just ask Michael Irvin's teammates. Dez is cut from the same cloth.I love Dez but the whole rah rah stuff up and down the sideline doesnt inspire everyone. Im sure theres quite a few who are like, ok dude, settle down
What a pointless conversation. When Dez talks the team listens. Period
