For those of you questioning why Dez was not named captain, keep in mind that the captains are voted into the position by the other players on the team.

I don't think it's necessarily a knock on Dez that he wasn't voted in, but rather a testament to how much respect the locker room has for Romo and Witten.

And just because you're not a captain, it doesn't mean you can't be a team leader or a leader for your position group.

Dez might not be an official captain but he's definitely a big part of the heart of this team.

Question for you guys. Romo has now been captain for 5 years. Does his C now turn Gold/yellow with the 5 stars ?

The best player on your team and your most vocal? I'd say that's surprising.

Being vocal and even being the best player are not the qualifications for team captain. Being the QB is and being a long time leader is. If you have an NFL team that votes in captains, and the QB is not one of them, you have a bad NFL team because that means you have a problem at QB. So Romo has to be a given. Secondly, look at this team and seriously tell me you think Jason Witten is not getting voted captain. There are two spots for offense and those are the obvious choices.

If the duties of the captain are to serve as the main communicators with the refs on the field, I don't see where Dez is more qualified for that. Is he the emotional leader of this team? Yes. Can you consider him to be the heart and soul of this offense and a dynamic personality that raises the level of play of everyone around him? Yes. Is he the guy you want walking up to the refs to mediate an issue? No.

So, no not surprising.

Dez is the best player on the team and he should be acknowledged as a Team Captain especially after signing his new contract.

Dez and Sean Lee came in the same year if Lee is a captain then Dez should be also.

The players vote the captains. It was their choice.

You are bringing up arguments for why he's not captain. I'm saying it's surprising that he's not. You can argue that if you want but Dez is one of this teams best players and two years ago when we were getting stomped out almost every week Dez was the only one showing any form of emotion while most of the team looked like the conceded and like they were content.

Surprising or not- the players spoke.
Dez is not a Captain (this season). He can still be a leader, and an inspiration for the others, but the players want Romo and Witten to be their captains on offense.

Done deal and not a big one, at that.

Yes, I am bringing up arguments for why he is not captain. Points that make it clear why Romo and Witten are both more obvious choices for captain. If the most obvious choices for captain are Romo and Witten, and there are 2 spots for captain then that's it. Clear and ovbious choice number one is voted in (which happened) and clear and obvious choice number tow was also voted in. I can't understand why you are surprised it wasn't Dez. It is not surprising at all. The qualifications you list as one of the teams best players and one of the only players showing emotion are not the qualifications for a captain. You seem to be getting leader and captain mixed up.

I guess what it comes down to is that you were surprised he was not chosen over Tony Romo and Jason Witten. I was not. So to me, it was not surprising in the least. If I were asked last week," Who will be the two offensive captains for the 2015 Cowboys?" It's an easy guess to say Romo and Witten. I just don't see how an easy assumption can be a surprise.

Actually, I disagree with that. Dez's rah rah stuff can get players pumped. Just ask Michael Irvin's teammates. Dez is cut from the same cloth.

Dez might not even want the title of captain. He's content in his role on the team. Everybody knows he's a leader and he has matured before our very eyes. I bet he voted for Romo and Witten. I wouldn't be surprised if they voted for him.

Hopefully Bailey wont be shaking so many FG's now...

Seriously, guy's about two misses away from a total psychological meltdown - Vanderjacked style..

What a pointless conversation. When Dez talks the team listens. Period

I think they all listen because he talks so loud.

I'm sure it's like tuning out a 747 engine 10 feet away from your head..

Don't get me wrong, Dez is the man and all, but he's just not a leader like Romo or Witten..
