Wasn't the American Auto industry failing pretty recently? Those old school looks used to be the bread and butter. They aren't anymore. Nobody between the age of 18-30 wants one. Sorry to break the news to you. Like I said, the people who want the look to stay the same tend to be the people who grew up with them but they don't buy them.

The American Auto industry was in bad shape... BEFORE they brought back the old school look, they sold a lot of mustangs and challengers that helped them a lot. Though still not in great shape financially afaik. But that has nothing to do with the "old school" look.

You're the one that seems to be taking this personally. What's wrong with American Automakers have a line of cars that are old school AND a more modern line of cars? I have a 2012 Ford Focus, and that thing looks like a modern type european car.

But Ford and Dodge made a LOT of money off the "old school" look of the Mustang and Challenger.

1) The Ford Focus doesn't look like any modern European car.

2) The "old school" look you say they brought back was always there. They've all looked the same. There have only been minor changes.

3) There's nothing wrong with trying to insert new cars into the marketplace. I never said they should do away with the Mustang. They just need to make it look new. Look at the evolution of Mercedes, Audi, BMW. They manage to pull it off on a consistent basis.

4) I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure I've read multiple times that old muscle cars have never sold the way they used to.

Uh...no.

Dodge nailed it with the Challenger. Chevy went too modern with the Camaro, and the Mustang wasn't half bad in 2005-2009.

This new design is nice enough, but perhaps they should call it something else.

All of that is purely subjective. I'm talking in terms of sales. Cars that fill the roads and outsell all of the other car brands.

Also, I think the Camaro's have sold the best out of all of them actually.

Also, after a 20 second google search you'll find this years Mustang sales have been dismal.

You must have a different google then I do...

http://www.mustangheaven.com/2012/m...s-figures-2013-mustang-powering-sales-higher/
Month to Month sales increased sharply as April 2012 sales were 7,801 compared to May 2012 sales of 10,427 which is a 34% increase.

Taking a look at the competition the Chevrolet Camaro sold 9,023 units and the Dodge Challenger sold 4,816 units for May.

http://www.themustangnews.com/content/2012/07/2013-mustang-poised-to-beat-camaro-in-sales-for-year/
Sales continued to rebound from the past few years of sluggishness in June, up an impressive 16.2% over the same month last year and a more intriguing 24.5% year to date. The Mustang sold 10,263 units in June which compares to 8,835 for the same month in 2011

There are so many Mustangs in the Washington, D.C. Area that its not even funny. I've seen anywhere from the base model to GT, Boss 302, Shelby GT 500, etc.

Also Mustangs out number Dodge and Chevy cars here.

I hope for the upcoming Challenger that it is only a slight refresh.

Holy crap, those numbers are bad.

In what way? The 2013 Mustang is having it's highest sales year in the last four years. The Mustang is never going to see sales numbers like a F150 or Camry.

Yeah, that's because the past four years have been even more abysmal.

Look up more pictures of it... (I posted some on a another board, can't remember where)

It's a 4-door, and the back is pretty ugly.

I don't see any 4 door Mustangs. Only rumors of such, but no pictures. At least none of the 2015. As for the rear end? I don't think it looks that bad. Could be better, but I definitely wouldn't say it looks bad.

The grill definitely has an Aston Martin look, but the car overall definitely isn't a straight knockoff of one. (this grill image looks a little different than the first image I posted.)

Really, wow and the Japanese just bombed Pearl Harbor. Of course the past four years have been abysmal. That still does not make the Mustang sales figures for 2013 weak. What are we comparing Mustang sales figures to? You can only compare it to other "Pony Cars" in it's class. In doing that, the Mustang in 2013 is outselling its rivals from GM and Dodge. The 2013 Mustang has also gained market share in taking sales away from GM and Dodge. In any business environment you would not call those numbers "bad".

Im comparing them to historical Mustang sales. These sales figures are low historically. Get over it.

I would prefer the Mustang continue to look like Eleanor but my guess is Ford will move it into the BMW, Audi, Volvo type range.

It's not 1964 anymore. The last time Mustang sales reached or exceeded 200,000 in a year was 1980. No pony car will ever repeat the sales volume they did in the 60's-70's. There is a lot more cars being sold these days and pony cars for the most part have become a niche vehicle.

Right, but I had no idea they were in the 50-70,000 annual sales range.

Mustang sales have never dipped that low. Even in the worst year of sales they did a little over 80,000 units sold. They should be close to 100,000 for 2013. Next year may see a dip from 2013 numbers as consumers will more then likely wait for the new 2015 model.

SMH, nice debate tactics. Yes you must be right because you say so....
Tactics?

I wouldn't call posting the actual sales figures "tactics".

I did post actual sales figures and compared them to other pony car sales. Instead you would rather choose to ignore them and pretend it's still 1964. I guess it is easier for you to tell someone to shut up then to try to come up with an actual intelligent argument that is relevant.
