I did post actual sales figures and compared them to other pony car sales. Instead you would rather choose to ignore them and pretend it's still 1964. I guess it is easier for you to tell someone to shut up then to try to come up with an actual intelligent argument that is relevant.

So what you're saying is that Ford shouldn't strive to sell Mustangs like they used to? They should quit and accept a smaller niche market? No wonder America is where it is right now.

You're absolutely right. It's not 1964. In 1965, the first full year of the Mustang, 559,451 units were sold. And in 2010, just under 75,000 were sold. It's nothing like 1964/65 is it?

It's very different from the 60s, or the 70s, or the 80s, or the 90s. Or the even the early 2000s. You might even say that the difference between recent years and those eras is that sales are lower. Much lower. Mustang sales have been at all time lows in recent history.

So.....what was your point again?

Mustangs will always be one of my favorite cars. My first one was a 16th B-Day present, a 66 candy apple red, was great. Skip to 2004-2005, I got the anniversary edition (convertible) for the wife.

Since that one, I haven't thought about buying one but this new model looks intriguing to me. I wish they could put the new technology into the 60's body styles, I would be all over that.

No, that is not what I said but nice try.

You seemed pretty okay with saying it's a niche market now. To me that's unacceptable for one of America's most important automobile manufacturers. Ford doesn't do niche. Ferrari, Porsche, Bentley...they do niche.

The front end has a lot of the Mazda Shinari concept car in it.

1) The Ford Focus doesn't look like any modern European car.

http://life.nationalpost.com/2012/03/31/road-test-2012-ford-focus-sel-is-a-stylish-european-designed-compact/

2) The "old school" look you say they brought back was always there. They've all looked the same. There have only been minor changes.

No, they haven't.

3) There's nothing wrong with trying to insert new cars into the marketplace. I never said they should do away with the Mustang. They just need to make it look new. Look at the evolution of Mercedes, Audi, BMW. They manage to pull it off on a consistent basis.

Why? Why not create a totally different car with a different name and KEEP the mustang? You just want a newer looking car that's called a "Mustang"?

If you don't like the car, there's plenty of other options out there for you.

4) I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure I've read multiple times that old muscle cars have never sold the way they used to.

Cars, in general, don't sell like they used to.

Yeah, that's because the past four years have been even more abysmal.

So has the economy. But like I stated above, cars don't sell like they used to, in general (except mainly trucks, but that's mostly mass purchased for businesses IMO, like the F-150, which is an awesome, very well built truck btw. Wish I hadn't sold mine :( ).

I would prefer the Mustang continue to look like Eleanor but my guess is Ford will move it into the BMW, Audi, Volvo type range.

Agreed. Why not keep it looking more like "Eleanor" to keep the "old school" type crowd happy and design something totally different for the "I want something new crowd"?

So, your point is that the Mustang should be selling well over 400,000 units a year? Not even the Toyota Camry does that and that cars numbers are boosted by rental car and corporate fleets. There is simply more choices for the consumer in this day and age. Like I said before the Mustang has not had over 200,000 units sold since 1979. So the 80's and 90's was nothing like the 60's either. Perhaps this is why Ford will be taking the Mustang global for the first time in 2015.

Tip, reading comprehension. Pony cars are not a family car. Look at the demographics of Mustang buyers. The Mustang is not a car like a sport sedan that can appeal to a cross section of buyers for the most part. Also like I said before there is simply more options in 2012 then there was in the 60's. Ford has done niche and they do it pretty damn well. F 150 Raptor, Ford GT, Shelby Mustang, etc......

I really hope they bring back the Sportrac. I really want to buy one but not till I pay another year on my Jeep. Was hoping to buy one new. :(

No, my point was that by any comparison to any period whatsoever Mustang sales are down.

Pretty straightforward stuff here.

lol. How old are you? My mothers first car was a yellow 1966 Mustang. (brand new)

Odd thing is, looking at what colors they came in I don't see yellow. Though my mother and grandfather (both have passed) and my father (who wrecked it haha) all say it was new and yellow.

I am 42. My dad got me one for my first car, had it refurbished and ready to hit the road. It was not brand new when I got it, heh.
