I was taking your six here, Son...as to burn barrel, that is a term that I have been using for the past decade for posters who come in regularly and just take a dump. Kind of a nick name for a low attraction group. Apparently you haven't been where it was extremely cold, and needed a source of heat to remain warm. A burn barrel then is a source for congregation...kind of like a stereotyping of always negative. But if you can't see support...carry on.

Oh, and YOU understand.

LOL no offense man. I apologize I really just didn't understand what you meant. Thanks for having my six man. My bad

DE- was weak before suspension. Lawrence is our best rusher and has only has 8 sacks. What did we have behind him? Nothing.

LB- We lost McClain, but had no depth. We all know Lee is an injury risk. Needed depth here.

DT - I can accept an argument that were OK at DT.

At defensive end: Lawrence, Mayowa, Irving - all have shown potential on the field...just not in sustained starting roles. But Lawrence, did provide 8 sacks in half a season of starts. That could easily project out to 10, even in a season shortened by four games.

Ryan Russell and Charles Tapper do present a rotational addition as well. Myself, I'll be patient with value from drafting and building without crushing a team's cap picture.

Lawrence, being our best pass rusher, was assisted by double teams from Hardy. Not to take anything away from him, but he will not have that luxury this year nor the luxury of the first four games. I would not project him to exceed last year's numbers.

Can't explain away with Cherry picking. Now, in the interior of the defensive line, are Cedric Thornton and a healthy Tyrone Crawford. On the outside, other end position, will be the winner between Russell, Irving, and Mayowa.

Naw, to someone not looking for a sack total from the past...that is equal or better, to this fan Sorry, no one else in the NFL is buying into the Hardy totals today as well.

I like the way the team as been built. It has been built for long term success by relying on the draft and not FA. I really believe this team was set to make a big push in 2013, but an insane number of injuries especially to the DL really hurt that year and ended in 8-8. In 2014, the one year we stayed mostly healthy across the board, we went 12-4 and one play away from the NFC Championship game, and then again in 2015, Injuries to your 2 best players killed the season. Yes the coaches should have done a better job with the back ups and players needed to step up but didn't, but realistically, what would that have meant, 2 or 3 more wins and picking at 9 or 10.. worked out for the best in that case.

Anyway, this team is ready and if we can stay healthy, we will make a run. The D is better than 2014 D IMO.

Good article.
I think it seems to be a combination of Stephen and Jason on this recent trend of "Home Grown". And, For the most part, its working. The obvious kaviat being round 2. The better cap space is a positive, and in general, i agree with this way of doing business. The problem seems to be the risk/reward approach to injuried/risky players - be it draft or free agents.
Curb that, and i think we are in business here.
My concern, and its been stated by many people here, many times - is the small window left for Romo and Witten. And the propencity to take risks where as they should be building blocks already.
Point in question, that lee and escobar are our most recent 2nd round picks practicing, a 2010 and 2012 picks. (I think).

Except your DC:

"I think [Collins has] got the stuff to pass rush in there, to help us for matchups," Marinelli said. "Now, let's say [Tyrone Crawford] is taking off and this guy starts coming, the thing that we had last year with Greg at least, DeMarcus Lawrence [had] 134 one-on-one rushes because protections went that way [toward Hardy], So he got singled up.
"He had eight sacks and quite a few hurries. It should be more, though. The right end over there had about 66 [one-on-one rushes]. Usually people pay the left tackle to play single football out there. If you get a mismatch, protection is going that way. Now, you've got to send your left end. To me, one of the best positions in football is the left end if you can get an athletic guy over there ... We're behind the 8-ball a little bit, so we've got to make it up.

Good post...

I haven't given up on Gregory, until they lower the casket into the ground. Then there are Lawrence and now, Jaylon Smith...I'll just remain patient.

Even in a prove it year, I think that Claiborne, Scandrick, and Jones make up a pretty strong defensive secondary as well.

I don't see a problem with that, his comment was about last year...and no doubt a complete fail on the defensive side of the ball. I'll just rest that cherry picking case, here and now.

I was going to write a thread last week - before the QB debacle, about the positives I see for this team. Since we have all been pretty negative lately. I do think we have plenty of building blocks - for the long haul.
The maddening part is the duel ideologies that seem to be part of our drafting and free agency approach.
Point in case - this year. I have been saying, for a couple of years now, we are one good defensive draft away from being competitive. And I still feel that way. This year we drafted Elliott for now, immediate help - which while I did not agree with doing that at a stacked position, I can see the benefit of a special player like him. Then turned around and took a "futures" gamble on Smith. Tried to get a pedigree backup QB, but it fell flat. Like the Tapper and Collins picks a lot.
I really think we can be a very good team next year, if we draft well. But Romo does not have forever, and if we are forced to play Dak this year, it may cost him a career here. This is my biggest concern, and now there is no quick fix/easy remedy. QB is still and will remain this teams biggest worry. Don't want to give away draft picks, so we will be forced to wait on cuts - that is poor off-season management by the front office.
Long term - this team looks to be turning the corner. Short term - not so much.

Fair view...sometimes being a fan, can involve a lot of waiting. Just the nature of coming together as a team, and the high demands that are added in as well.

I like team directions...it's smart and very in stride with planning.

I have no idea what your talking about. All I'm saying is the suspensions are ridiculous. And with that it hurt the team greatly. As far as ripple and tickets, just makes no sense.

You must be new here. You need to use the CCBoy translator, which is available to you only if you are a contributing member. :D

He will have your six and you are just going to have to learn to like it. To everyone else, keep an eye on your own six, ccboy is on the hunt. On a football note, Marinelli loved Greg Hardy and his ability to create one on one's for the rest of the DL.

...by the way, Catholic Schools here in Corpus Christi, started up today...

As long as that is part of the scheming by Marrinelli, that is appreciated. There were other things that didn't make the total picture add up. I think the occupying offensive linemen will be done by Tyrone Crawford and Cedric Thornton, this season.

But we don't need DTs, especially 3 techs, to occupy offensive linemen. The Cowboys need pass rush from every DL position on this very inexperienced unit. This is not a Parcells 3-4 where the 3 DL occupy OL, while bringing heat from the edges (OLB). Marinelli does not believe in the planet theory, he prefers his DL to be as explosive as possible, to the point that he will bring in oversized DE/undersized DTs at 3 tech and even at the 1 tech.
