2021 Draft Class

Micah and Osa make it an excellent draft. (Micah alone would make it an excellent draft). Could it have been better? Sure.
The last truly bad draft the Cowboys had was 2017. 2019 was mediocre.
Agree but Asante Jr was there and we took Joseph. Most here knew that was a mistake when we did it. But you know we aren’t paid scouts so we should bow in deference

They need to stop trying for high risk reward players in the 2nd round. They do better with 3rd and 4th rounders just picking solid guys.
You would think their internal review would look at the historical data and just slap the sh** outta anyone who mentions taking a player with either A) baggage or B) measurables that aren't supported by tape.

If nothing else, use picks to trade up til you all agree on a solid player. Way better than missing.

Jury is still out on Wright let him develop some more. Quinn sees something in him and I'll trust thar judgment.

Every draft will have duds.

I think the only part that stings is the forced corner pick in round 2, and then drafting measurables with Wright in round 3. When both were quite raw as actual corners.
Yes. They took these two guys too high. Proven talent was still available.
It stings.

In most drafts, you end up with 2 or 3 keepers. Draft success rate isn't great for any team. If u can add a starter or two...and then a decent backup/ST guy or two, you've done ok.

If you luck out and land a superstar....even if every other player gets cut, that's a good draft.

You gotta judge drafts compared to how all other teams draft over time.... not just how you as a fan feel about your team. It's like grading on a curve. Maybe you think a 50% on a test sucks. But if the rest of ur class all got 30 and 40%, then either you are in a class full of dummies, OR the test is extremely hard and 50% is actually outstanding.

Micah alone still leads me to give this draft an A as any time you pick a future HOF-type talent, you can't say the team did too bad.

That being said, the only other good player on that entire board is OSA.

Outside of those two, not the best class, but servicable. Most of these guys couldn't even contribute on special teams/ make it through their rookie deals which is unfortunate.

I will say, Dallas has picked so well the last decade that our fans have lost perspective as to what most teams' drafts look like. Typically not too different from this minus the All-Pro pass rusher, but if you are going to be as draft-dependent as the Cowboys are, you've got to land 3-4 contributors almost every year and anything else is less than ideal.
:hammer:

Lets not forget Micah fell in their lap. They had their heart set on a corner.
People keep saying the Cowboys drafts have been good. The 2021 draft is good ONLY because of 2 players and Micah was NOT the Cowboys target, Surtain was.

So what? They ended up with Parsons. I don't give Jerry any credit for saying that he would have taken Hurts had he slipped further in the draft, all that matters is who they came away with. Plus even had they ended up getting Surtain would it have made it a bad draft? Dude is one of the best DBs in the league.

This board is the epitome of people seeing what they want to see.

Parsons, Osa, Golston, and Mukuamu make this draft a success.

And who knows, trading away Joseph for Igbinoghene, who was a 1st round pick, might work out and make this even better.

We got TLance via trade with SF. 8)

Could be the greatest draft ever.

I guess the 1990 draft was no good either, Jimmy Johnson "targeted" Baylor linebacker James Francis. When he went off the board at 12 they "settled" for Emmitt Smith.

The Cowboys obviously had Parsons on their radar so they took him. Let's not hate just for the sake of hating.

pretty sad for a team that supposedly drafts well. when you blow 2nd round pick most years, it's hard to have a great draft.

I'm really suprised with KJ. Don't get me wrong I wasn't a huge fan of him, but all the reports coming out of camp were positive. I was led to believe he was competing with Bland in the slot. Apparently I need to pay better attention.

Yes, and that really speaks well of their process. They didn't panic, they adjusted when the draft threw them a curve, and reaped the rewards. The Cowboys don't always follow great process, but that time they did.
