Cowboys at Chargers Week 1 is a real longshot. Would Fox be happy with this assuming it's not Dallas at Tampa? Would be a great test on the road against what could be a top defensive unit.
The opening game on Thursday is approaching its 20th season this year. Crazy to think it’s that old, it’s a tradition now. In the previous 19 games, Dallas wasn’t involved in 18 of them. Not after you went 13-3 in 2016, not after 12-4 in 2014, not even after 2007 when you went 13-3 and NYG won the SB. They didn’t even give to you then. Imagine a NYG/DAL opening game with 2 of the best teams in the league... NFL said not the best option. You did it once in 2012 as a poor man’s rematch to that 2007 possibility after NYG’s 2011 win.
Once in 20 years. But now that Dallas went 6-10, they’re the only obvious option to put in the game because the league is dying to pull the Dallas card on a losing season despite never doing it before?
The saints won the Bucs division and have been a powerhouse the last decade. They looked as good without Brees the last couple years as they have with him. That’s game A. The Bills are coming off an AFCCG appearance, that’s game B. Are the Cowboys even a better choice than Tua and the 9-7 Dolphins? Not if they don’t pull the Dallas card, which they haven’t.
6 of the last 9 years you opened against the Giants, and 5 of those 6 has been in Jerry world, with the last few on SNF. That’s my guess
