Same as Parcells. Jerry would have to step back…..which he did with Parcells.
Jerry stepped back for about 2 years. But at the end of Parcells time here, he was back to his meddling self. Remember “the Player” as Parcells called him? Big Bill wanted nothing to do with T.O. And some would argue Terrell Owens was great here. He certainly had the stats.

But…In the end, we won zero playoff games with Parcells or T.O. Parcells left in 2006, Owens left here after 2008, and we never won a playoff game with him in those 3 seasons, and zero in the 4 years Parcells was here.

Since he started driving Jimmy Johnson crazy with his hijinks, Jerry has NEVER let a HC here have full authority.

Blue, just my opinion but I honestly don’t think Dallas is still considered a “top job” like it used to be. I think Jerry has clearly become more difficult to work with and despite the glow of the Cowboys brand, being the HC here has lost lots of the luster it once had.

Why do I believe that? Name the last “great” HC who agreed to coach here. McCarthy is a good HC. Definitely the best we’ve had since Parcells. In fact, look at the HCs we’ve had since Jimmy left. Barry, Chan Gailey, Dave Campo, Parcells, Wade, Garrett and now Mac. Who of those guys other than Parcells (who was at the end of his career) and Mac (who is now 61) would be considered top notch HCs?

IMO, the HC job in Dallas is not what it once was. Just look at the coaches we’ve had. Secondly, the most attractive things for a HC in this league are 1. Having a supportive owner. 2. Having a really good GM who can give you talent and support. I don’t think Dallas offers that at all.
The one thing I’m sure of is Belichick won’t go to a team without a stable QB situation.
The minimum I want to see from a new coach is 1. tough consistency in approach to fix the culture and reduce penalties, and 2. fix the dang defense so we can at least use the Doomsday adjective again, a big, strong front seven. 3. Fix the run game with a scheme that fits the OL and then pair the appropriate RB to that.

Everything else is gravy.

If Jerry is willing to do that I’d support BB here on that alone.

I just don’t get the idea that he is there yet. I dont think one bad season is going to force such significant change.

Define “stable QB.” That’s where it starts. Nothing else matters until you’ve got the right LEADER under center.

Wrong!!

In 2007 Wade said getting the bye was the same as winning a playoff game.

I don’t think Jerry at 82 suddenly stops being what he has always been for 35 years: A micromanager who likes being the center of attention. He MUST be the centerpiece and face of the franchise or he won’t be happy.

This roster is such a mess that I don’t expect any new coach to have much success right away either. I just want to see someone capable of starting to change the culture. If we have a top 5 defense and a top 10 run game and win a couple playoff games by the time we are looking for our next QB, at least the next coaches will have a chance.

I agree, but I think he would enjoy a little success more than the constant criticism and ridicule he is now experiencing.
Maybe I’m just a dreamer, Bob…..hahaha. I do feel 100 percent certain that this roster and culture has zero chance of threatening for a title in the next couple of years no matter who is coaching. Jerry has allowed the defensive roster to shrink to 1 pass rusher, a couple of pretty good CBs, 1 exciting young smallish LB, and a bunch of JAGs. The offense is a pretty good QB, 1 playmking wr who however cannot beat double coverage, a promising TE who is a poor blocker, and not much else.

I would be excited with a Vrable hire. I think he could change the culture and make our defense respectable again. But like Belichick, he needs a good OC.
you mean like all 32 teams would love a great OC???

Wow ,

I mean are we generalizing here did I miss something literally that goes without saying yeah putting together a great staff and having great coordinators is what the goal is ,

but it doesn't mean you're not gonna miss out a bunch...

That includes the overrated Mr. Johnson 'cause he hasn't done anything outside of the lions yet, so we don't know if this is something to do with all the talent the leadership from Campbell we don't know how do you know he's going to be a head coach somewhere else and they can't reinvent what he did with the lions....

it happens all the time so people around here really gotta calm down we gotta hope that whatever staff we get turns out to be a very good one that they work together it's not just on the field you literally have to have complimentary coaching staff like you do have to have complimentary football I think it starts with the coaches and that's how it ends up on the field that way right now it's disjointed but I'm the whole goal of every team in the NFL to have a great coaching staff and they don't always work out that way I mean why do you think Keller Moore left here doesn't last in San Diego or LA my bad the chargers and now he's getting props for what he's doing in Philly but I've seen was in philly's offense at times that looked just like was here but he's getting bailed out by what an overabundance of talent that's what that's what happens we need one that can actually work with schemes much like Shanahan in the 49ers and I know they're five and five right now but they're backups these guys like their backup running back and backup wide receiver they haven't seemed to miss a beat they're pretty much playing almost at a similar level as their stars are that tells me their scheme and the way they implement the scheme and the game plans during the week they all kinda go hand in hand everybody knows their job knows what they're supposed to do and they execute to the best of their ability and ask to do more than they could do but I'm more impressive with that that's what we need here someone that can get a scheme installed that can have backups they don't have to perform as an elite starter but you don't have a big drop off that they're able to still function right now we have none of that here our head coach and offensive coordinator don't even know how to use our players right he don't even know how they fit it took him all year to realize Rico should have been the starter some of us saw that last year I don't care how much Tony was being paid I believe if Tony was used properly like he has been when he was behind zeke and let Rico start last year and then Rico would have had the job coming into this year we wouldn't be where we're at right now...

Crazy to think we are talking about Dallas Cowboy and “winning a playoff game” is in the conversation as a mesure of success for a head coach, Jesus Christ this is extremely sad…

we need a strong willed hc who can not just live with this f/o dynamic...but can coach "around" it.
thats why i want belichick.
he's the only one that could do it.
if jerry the owner were to fire jerry the gm...give me ben johnson or slowik.
