And he said not only are they a must for the 3-4 scheme, but they make up the core of your special teams...no way we only keep 8.
Depends. Will Obomese contribute more to special teams than whoever he takes a spot from? Will Obomese even be active for games if he's on the roster?

If the answer is no to either of those questions it doesn't make sense to keep him.

Of course they're a must for the 3-4. That has nothing to do with keeping 9, though. A backup for each position is more than sufficient, particularly when you have players that can play multiple positions.

Hell, Carpenter is even taking away Obomese's work as DE on 3rd string nickel defense.

Romo is to Bledsoe as Matt Moore is to Brad Johnson. Keep Matt Moore, he's shown enough potential that he wouldn't last long enough to get to the practice squad. He has a very quick release, as well.

If we're going to keep only two quarterbacks, release Johnson, there's no sense in keeping another Bledsoe, even though he's experienced, his arm can't be counted on to last 4 quarters, it looked shaky in the one quarter that he did play. Besides we have an emergency QB in Stanback, so we can survive on two QB's.

Good list. The only thing I would change is drop Hoyte and add Joey Brown, but that's just me.

Hoyte is pretty much a lock at this point.

QBs last forever on the PS since most teams don't want a rookie who knows nothing about their O on the active roster.

If Moore is cut, he'd make it to the PS without a problem

They will have to hide the rookie QB if he conts to look that good

Keeping just 8 OL is risky

Joey looks like a keeper

Brown and Hall will likely go PS unless Davis is cut which I doubt We`re finally reasonably deep at safety

LBs is tough call` A lot depends on who we keep at WR and OL` Stanback creates a tough decision` Joey another` A surprise LB could find a roster spot`

I'm sure someone has thought of this before, but out of 53 guys, couldn't we find one that could LS as good as Lauedeacoeuror.(SP) :)

I mean it just sucks that we have to waste a spot on someone that doesn't contribute that much. .... I guess in reality though his job is fairly important. And doesn't he have other special teams duties as well?

I don't know, maybe I'm just talking out of my butt. I'm just not a big fan of the K's, P's and LS's of the world. Are they really even "real" football players?

PS. I am halfway kidding.:laugh2:

This is just ridiculous...the kid was inconsistent in college, played part of a game against guys that over half won't make the roster, and now we should cut a proven vet for him...brilliant.

Folk over Marteeen, eh?

I agree with the notion of youth, but Gramatica has been Automatica for us in no uncertain terms. And he's been in the cooker before. I might even keep two kickers on for now.

On that issue, I'm glad I'm not the coach.

he didnt even make 80% of his kicks last year.

Testaverde and Bledsoe were really good at one time, but you can't ride the season into the playoffs with their arm when they are well past their prime. Moore has a quick release, and will do better in a pinch than Johnson. I really think that. I seem to remember the Cowboys whuppin up on the Vikings 40-nil in the first half!! Johnson was the Vikings QB at the time, and he hasn't had near the career of Testaverde or Bledsoe since. He's on the Cowboys roster for experience, and not much else.

I'd rather take my chances with a diamond in the rough than the known quantity of Brad Johnson.

Moore would be a turnover machine like all rookies are. Johnson is a bus driver and people just need to realize that and deal with it.

So Romo goes down we are better off with a UDFA rookie who wasn't that good in college over a SB winning QB?

Like I said...ridiculous.
