Round 1- Owamagbe Odighizuwa DE, UCLA Don't want to toot my own horn (toot toot), but I've had us taking Owa in the 1st since January and I'm sticking with my boy. He'd make a perfect compliment to Lawrence with his strength as a run stopper and I think we've only seen the tip of the ice berg of him as a pass rusher. Day 1 starter at DE.

Round 2- Trade Back! we trade back to move somewhere between 5-12 spots back and pick up an early 3rd and 4th. For the purposes of this I'll say a WR has fallen and a team like NYJ or STL trades up to get him

Early 3rd- Grady Jarrett DT, Clemson- Perfect fit for Marinelli. Compact frame with adequate arm length and tons of strength. At his best when using his quickness to penetrate gaps. Needs refinement with counter moves when initially blocked, but that will come. Great rotational guy day 1.

Late 3rd- Buck Allen RB, USC- Big back who runs between the tackles with vision for the hole well but also brings a lot of versatility. Good pass catcher and also good in pass pro. I think he will be better off dropping a few pounds when he gets to the NFL like Bell did in Pitt to make himself a little quicker and agile. Comes in and competes for the RB job right away because of his versatility and ability to be a 3 down back .

Early 4th- Ladarius Gunter CB/S, Miami- Tall CB with a solid build and a nose for playing the ball in the air. Doesn't have the straight line speed to be a press man CB, but is perfect for a zone scheme. Stout run defender who knows how to wrap up and bring down ball carriers. He won't be for every system which is why he's available in the 4th, but I think he can be used at either S or CB in dime packages until he develops into a full time outside CB in a more zone based scheme I think Marinelli wants to run.

Late 4th- Ben Henney LB, Kansas- Great athlete with adequate size. Maximum effort player who consistently fires downhill without fear to meet ball carriers in the hole. His coverage skills need refinement to read the qb better and play a more effective zone but he has more than enough athleticism to be a good coverage LB with some coaching. Could be another mid round steal at LB for us.

Round 5- Corey Robinson OT, South Carolina- This is a risk pick. Robinson could end being an NFL LT or he will be out of the league shortly. He's a huge specimen who has decent foot speed that projects pretty well to RT if you ask me. He will need to be coached along and it will take some motivation but the upside is definitely there. Worth the risk in the 5th if he's still there in my opinion.

Buck Allen in the 3rd seems early, but if you love him I guess that insures that you get him.

We desperately need that 2nd round pick .
Can't give it up.
If we can't get Gurley,Gordon or Coleman I would rather not draft one at all.

Yeah because it's so rare to find a RB past the 2nd round...you're over thinking it if you think they are the only 3 guys that could succeed in our offense.

i will say this in every mock i see between now and the draft.

This team will draft a QB between the 2nd and 4th rounds. All one has to do is look at the age and health of our QB and the fact we really dont have a backup and certainly not a developmental on the roster. Everyone will complain and moan about it but its going to happen

Sure other RBs can succeed in our offense. But some better than others. A grill cheese sandwich is great but give me the rib eye steak .

It's the worst QB draft class in really long time. We will not force a QB just because. They aren't going to bump Dustin Vaughan for any of the scrubs available in this draft after keeping him on the roster for an entire year.

Not bad but I just don't like OO. He seems like a workout warrior with not much production

6 sacks and 11.5 TFL is far from not much production for a 3-4 end if you ask me. Not to mention that the stats dont do justice how disruptive he was.

Owa is a RDE only in this schem. Not good lining up in the 5 which is where he will have to play on the left side for us so no thanks. Owa is best I the 7 or wide 9 on the right side. We have Lawerence.

What? Why the hell could Owa not play LDE in our scheme?

Strum says

What I liked: When watching this player do his work, you can see there is a lot to like. He appears to be very versatile in many regards with his ability to do things that help you up front. First, he rushes from that RDE spot and can get some things done there with his array of moves. He can turn the corner reasonably well and is helped by his relentless battle. Then, you can line him up at the strong-side (LDE) where his ability to deal with the run is put on full display and that might be where he is really better than his size would indicate. He squares to the line and then can shoot gaps and anticipate the snap with speedy “get-off” and demonstrate some great athleticism. Additionally, he is moved inside on pass rush downs and can get isolated with a guard and push the pocket up. He has really long arms and uses them well with a push/pull technique that is too much for many of the college linemen he faced. His motor and his dimensions both really work in his favor.

I guess he could play bit he wouldn't be that good at it. We play alot of 5 tech. Head up on the RT. Owa isn't great getting off press. Best lined up in the 7 or 9. Just my opinion. I didn't notice it as much toll Broaddus mentioned it. So I went back and watched and he was right. The plays where he gets pressure is from the 7 and has trouble in the 5

I like him and I would be happy to have but I don't think he is a top 30 player especially with his hip issues. Also I just think his best position is the right side.

If you don't like Owa taking on blocks I'm not sure who you will like then. Pres Smith is about the only guy in this draft with the length/strength combo Owa has. I'm not saying he's perfect and can't use some counter moves to shed, but it's hard to find a DE with better tools than Owa late in round 1.
