No 3-4 in Nickel. Defenses play Nickel vs 3 WR set which is the majority of snaps now.

The Cowboys have played Bohanna, Hankins & Watkins together on the DL in a front similar to 3-4 on short yardage plays.

We don’t have the personnel to run a 3-4.

3-4 DEs are like 6’5 300+.

No, not even close.

Your best run defender is DLaw and 3-4 will turn him into your worst run defender. Shut this nonsense down and end thread. Good bye.
Switch Clark and Parsons.

Or

Bohanna, Hankins, Watkins on the DL. Move DLaw to strong side backer with Williams weak side OLB. Parson and LVE/Clark inside.

Stick Parsons in the middle? Seriously? Take one of the best edge/pressure players and stick him in the middle. Unreal.

3-4 can stop the run. So can a 4-3. Gap assignment is what's important. If you 2Gap and the NT decides he wants to try and penetrate a Gap instead of holding ground then you have the same problem we have now. Regardless of what the scheme is, you have assignments you must adhere to.

True or false but every D player that has commented on this doesn't see a serious problem with corrections. All ( including Quinn ) seem to suggest every player needs to control/handle his gap responsibility.

We don’t need to overhaul the defense. Just play 3 LBs or whatever gets a “regular” front 7 on the field. The moronic big nickel is what is killing us. It’s fine in certain situations but if you run it as your base D you’re going to get crushed by the run over and over and over. The eagles realized they weren’t stopping the run and put 5 DL on the field last week. We get gashed by the run week after week and still play 5 DBs. I love Quinn but if he doesn’t see how simple the problem of playing the nickel as often as we do on early downs will lead to trouble stopping the run it’s makes me question my thoughts of him being a great DC. There just aren’t enough big bodies on the field to fill the gaps and make the plays. The replays of last week show the OL just doubling guys over and over to open holes and no one backfilling the space to close the hole

Tank would have to be traded or released for the 3-4 to work properly. He's not a DT or an OLB.
He only plays 60% of the snaps. I think he could play DE in a 3-4. Jay Ratliff was undersized and he made it work. We are going to waste Parsons career if we don't build around him. No doubt OLB in a 3-4 is his best position in my mind. LB is a waste of his pass rush and DE he will get worn down. OLB he can prolong his career

Odighi and Golston at DE with Hankins at NT.

Parsons at 3-4 OLB.

The other OLB:
Fowler: Has played primarily in 3-4 defenses.
Sam Williams: Often played 3-4 OLB in college.
DLaw: OLB on run downs. DE on passing downs.

Aaron Donald plays as a 3-4 DE. He is 6'1.

Osa and Gholston aren’t big enough to 2 gap. Heck Gholston played as a 4-3 DE in college. You need huge dudes that have a ton of length.

Parsons also doesn’t have the size / frame to be an outside backer. He’s below average in setting an edge so it’d be a complete was if our most talented player.

How I would lineup a 3-4:
ROLB Parsons/Fowler
RDE Osa/Gallimore/Watkins
NT Hankins/Bo
LDE Golston/Watkins/Gallimore
LOLB DLaw/Sam
WILB LVE/Barr
MLB Clark

Parsons is 1.91m 245 lbs

TJ Watt 1.93m 252 llbs

Kahil Mack 1.91m 250 llbs

All within range

Note Leonard Floyd is 1.98m but leaner at 240 llbs

So weighs less, has short arms and lesser wing span.

I’ll also add that those guys have been playing edge / 3/4 LBr for years now and they have the power to anchor against the run.

Parsons is not that guy. If we ask him to start trying to anchor against and get off blocks against OTs o a regular basis we’re literally doing the opposite of maximizing his strengths.
