You're right. A team cannot win easily if you have a large amount of turnovers, but you have to agree that you can't win easily if a team is giving up yards the way Dallas is as yards will eventually turn into points.

I think Dallas has the offense together and if the defense can turn the corner we'd have a very, very good team ... if not, this team will continue to struggle. And, it most certainly will not win playoff games much less a Super Bowl.

Yards do not show on the score board. There were 3 turn overs alone 1 gave the Gaints a direct TD and 2 others the defense was able to hold them to a FG which was not bad considering they were already in FG range after the turn over. Yes I want to see the defense play better and I think they will. This non sense about 3-4 or 4-3 is just that, both styles of defense have won championships so the type of system we run is not a big issue.

BTW, I have not mentioned switching to a 4-3 or have made such comparisons. If you think that giving up that many yards will not eventually turn into points, you're fooling yourself. Think of how wrecked the defense looked on that last drive ... completely spent. That wasn't merely from turnovers as 1 didn't affect the time on the field and another was a very short field where they spent little time. Their physical condition was from not making defensive stops which directly correlated to their time on the field. Take on another team where your defense is on the field 35, 40, or 45 minutes and I promise you the score will again be high, turnovers or not.

There's no advantage to running a 3-4 defense anymore. It was still somewhat of a novelty until the Patriots started their dynasty. Now everyone and their mother runs a 3-4. All the Belichick disciples who try to create New England clones at their new coaching jobs, or even worse the wannabe Belichick clones who never coached under him but still try to copy his blueprint to a T.

The 3-4 thrives on the specialized players you need to run the system - the big hulking nose tackle, the talented DE who can rush the passer when needed, but is mostly used to eat up blockers and of course the speedy, athletic edge rushers at OLB.

There aren't TONS of these guys floating around out there and the more teams that convert to a 3-4, the more hands there are plucking into that relatively small talent pool of 3-4 players. Over half the league is running it now. We'd be better off going back to a 4-3 and trying to build a defense like the Giants did. Invest everything into the D-Line...build that up and then everything else falls into place. Ware and Spencer can line up at DE.

Were they in the 3-4 on the final drive? Seems as if they were in their nickel package, which would look the same whether they ran a 3-4 base scheme of 4-3 base scheme.

I know one thing they looked gassed on the final drive, guys were slow coming off the ball at the end and not getting much of a push.

Much of it from the defensive side was that we were just out game planned.

The giants clearly knew that our emphasis would be on stopping the run. On their first snap, our defense (and me) were looking for jacobs to get the ball and try to run. They went deep on pass. We kept waiting for the run but it was designed as a pass heavy series. It worked great and we never adjusted so they kept after it.
After half-time, they were ahead of us again.... we were now prepared to defend the pass so they run jacobs for big gains.

Seems we haven't been able to play both the run & pass defense at the same time so far....
