I was just wondering lets say the worst happens ( and no im not trying to curse the season) that we end up having a disappointing season and Wade gets canned for whatever reason. Who comes in to coach this D? There's a lot of people that want Wade gone and I cant lie I have my frustrations with him here and there nothing extreme though, but what coach would be out there that can come in and succesfully coach the 3-4 and im not talking Parcells type of philosophy im talking about Wades pressure type philosophy to the 3-4. For the people that want him gone I dont think its gonna be as easy as many think to get rid of him. Think about it we've invested millions and Im talking about MILLIONS on that side of the ball for players suited for the 3-4 so that defense is gonna be here to stay for awhile. To me its easier to bring in an offense coordinator especially with all the weapons we have that can get the O rolling but what about the D. This isnt an agenda thread against Wade but I was just wondering what coaches are out there that can help our D if Wade ever got sent walking?

I don't know, I'm sure someone is out there, hopefully the staff knows how to identify coaching talent.

Personally, I wanted Garrett to takeover and Dom Capers to be hired as DC, but we missed that opportunity (at least as far as DC goes)

If Wade is 86'ed put your money on Herring being promoted to DC. Highly respected by the entire Defense and intense.

Someone that will fire Campo.

Really, I don't know. Maybe someone from Pittsburgh or NE that we think might be ready? If Wade gets fired, I'm going to assume that the D was poor, and in that case I'd rather have a fresh voice in here. I like Herring, but he doesn't have any experience, and who's to say he's not another Ted Cottrell?

I don't keep up with Virginia's program, but they've gotten killed by lower-tier teams the last two week. Maybe Garrett can get some castoff from there, like Al Groh.

I like that idea, we need to start hiring from within so coaches know they have an opportunity for advancement within the organization (imho)

Dat would move immediately into the LB Coaches role.

I've thought about this and wonder if Wade would stay on as just D-Cord if let go as head coach?

How about Pittsburgh LB coach, Keith Butler? He's done a great job developing many of their young LBs there and is familiar w/ the 3-4 defense they run in Pittsburgh. With Tomlin at them helm it is very unlikely that he will be promoted up to the head coaching rank while in Pittsburgh. Put Butler at DC and Garrett at OC and may the best coach win the starting job outright once Wade leaves.

Just my two cents. This guy seems like a great pick (although he is probably being groomed as LeBeau's replacement, but hopefully we can sell him on Dallas).

I wouldn't be surprised to see Herring or maybe Grantham become D-Coordinator. I've pretty much become resigned to the fact that Garrett will become our new head coach after Wade is gone. If by some reason he doesn't, then I think we need to hire a Defensive head coach like Cowher or Ron Rivera (who I think will be a great HC).

I know I am in the minority, but...

Wade has really impressed me so far this year. I would like to see him stay even if we don't make the playoffs. I think it is clear that something great is being constructed, and sometimes it takes longer than we might like.

I think this will be a successful season, but nonetheless, Wade is winning me over...

so, i don't want to think about who we might replace him with...

but if I have to: Dick LeBeau

:p:

I have no problem with garrett becoming the head coach as long as he's showing promise calling the plays the rest of the season cause I'm tired of hiring stop gap coaches that dont have a future with the team. I wanna be able to hire a young up and coming coach that can be here for the forseeable future and I think Garrett fits the build for us. The problem in the league nowadays is the revolving door at the coaching position. You only need to look at organizations like Pittsburg and Tennessee that have shown pretty consistent success in the league for coaching models.

On your last point Rivera isnt a bad option in my opinion either. Before we hired Wade he was really making a point to sell himself to the organzation when he was being interviewed about possibly coaching in Dallas. I think he has the fire and enthusiasm that I good coach needs but how competent is he in running a 3-4 defense seeing how he ran the 4-3 mostly?

The problem with getting someone from Pittsburgh would be that we'd change Defensive philosophy. We would stop running the Phillips 3-4 and switch into that zone blitz scheme, which would mean some learning time. The same would be true with someone from the Pats, as they run kind of their own thing up there, but it's a descendant of Parcells' 3-4. Same with Al Groh, who runs the exact same two gap scheme that Parcells used, and we weren't very happy with that.

I'd be happy with promoting someone up from within, probably Herring like Hos said. Or I'd hire someone from the Philips coaching tree. And not just Wade, but Bum's tree too.

And personally, I wouldn't really mind Dom Capers as well.

I think you look at young and upcoming assistance coaches who implement the 3-4 for instance Kevin Greene as an example who is helping Capers bring the 3-4 to GB

And Campo was a damn good D-coordinator for us. If he's smart enough to learn the intricacies of the 3-4, I don't see why not. He's always hanging around Wade on the sidelines anyway.

This is exactly my pick.

That's true, but Wade's defenses have a history of getting worse when he leaves, even with the same system. -- except, I guess, maybe in New Orleans -- so I almost think we'd be better just to put in something new. If it's still the 34, I don't think the change would be that drastic. (Though yes, I don't think we'd be best served going back to the two-gap.)

And really, his system isn't that different from a 43, so we could do that... Although I'd much rather Ware be a LB than down on the line getting pounded every play.

Oh, and I was just being facetious about Groh because of the Garrett connection. :p:

And we wouldn't get Capers anyway. I can't see any way he gets fired after just one year at Green Bay.

We're 1-0 and going into one of the biggest games in franchise's history (opening of this awesome stadium) against a bigtime divisional opponent, and this is what people want to talk about?
