3-4 does not matter

Some San Diego fans have said they were very impressed with the pressure our defense put on Brees. Tomlinson was forced to stay in pass protection quite a bit, which is why HE HAD ZERO CATCHES FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HIS CAREER.

And remember, Brees was sacked only 18 times all of last season, and the Chargers' entire O-line returned this season.

I thought we did a good job on pressure. I wish we could get a better push up the middle, but overall I thought we did pretty well. Brees was rushed on a lot of throws and sacked a few times. Consider that the Chargers also play a 3 - 4, so they are used to seeing that kind of D and knowing where the pressure can come from, and our D did an even better job.

Maybe we'd have more pressure if we didn't ask Ware to COVER RECEIVERS. Lord knows we never burdened Haley with that chore.

He's a LB. Sometimes he's going to have to chip a receiver or cover one in the flat. It's not asking too much of an OLB to do that. Part of the advantage of the 3 - 4 over the 4 - 3 is that the offense doesn't know where the pressure is coming from. If you refuse to allow Ware to do anything but rush the passer you've become a 4 - 3 with a guy standing rather than a 3 - 4.

I didn't know that thanks for posting. I guess the sack and 2 int's were pretty good then.

So many things are better then last year...

Scheme, players, Todd Bowles...
Its a game we easily LOST last year...

The GREAT thing is, its ONLY going to get better!

Well, I actually thought the defense played well, for the most part. LT was held in check all day. Brees got quite a bit of pressure, despite having a good line completely returning. Add in that the D spent some time playing with bad field position after the Sproles returns, and I'm not complaining about anything right now. Even better, I think there is still a lot of room for improvement.

amen. that O-line is actually pretty darned good. the guys they block for ain't too shabby either. i suspect San Diego is gonna do some damage with that offense this season.

that was a tough test our defense just passed. i'm flippin' giddy.

Actually, we had 2 sacks. And remember, Drew Brees said that this year's Chargers had potentially the greatest offense in the history of the NFL.
