I am starting to like Dallas draft a lot more!

Cowboys: 3 pre-draft rumors that were clearly a smokescreen

3. High possibility of Steve Avila in first round

2. Cowboys are definitely drafting a quarterback

1. Everything related to the TE position

Credit to the entire Cowboys' draft team for executing the best smokescreen of the first round. All everyone heard in the weeks leading up to the draft was that Michael Mayer wasn't getting past Dallas at No. 26 overall.

In the event Dalton Kincaid was still available, though, he would have been the pick considering he was the team's top-ranked tight end. That was the narrative being pushed by draft experts and the general media.

That wasn't true, either, though it baited the Bills into trading one spot ahead of the Cowboys to draft Kincaid. Fans in Buffalo and some national pundits are crediting the Bills with duping Dallas, but it was actually the other way around as Dallas likely wouldn't have taken Kincaid in round one anyway.

Per ESPN's Todd Archer, Iowa's Sam LaPorta was the team's TE1 followed by Kincaid and Mayer. Additionally, the Cowboys didn't have a first-round grade on any of them. We like to think they would've traded up in the second round if one of LaPorta or Mayer had fallen within their range, but they were gone by pick 35.

I don’t think those were smokescreens. Avila was in consideration at 26 and TE was clearly a priority because we reached for one at 58. I think drafting a QB became less important once they re-signed Rush.
Most rumors are just made up by media to have something to talk about snyway
But a team using a little smokescreen is certainly a smart move anyway

They wanted a TE very badly but they had some sense to at least consider the LOS players first. Weird part is they thought LaPorta and Schoonmaker were virtually the same as Mayer or Kincaid, meaning they all had to be in the same round graded.

They had 2nd round grades. I believe they only had 11 first round grades this year.

Having LaPorta as their top TE was a smokescreen. I'm 98% certain that if Buffalo didn't jump the Cowboys they would've taken Kincaid.
I’d make this argument as well. Kincaid on tape is sizzling as a receiver. I’m sure MM was in love with idea of giving Dak that kind of big target that can get open. The 2nd round TE’s are all more traditional, less athletic players.

3. NO. Turned out he was in the debate when the Cowboys were on the clock. Thank goodness they went Mazi instead.

2. MAYBE. The QB's all went earlier than the Cowboys expected. So rather than reach for a QB we got Richards, Scott, Vaughn and Brooks with those pick.

1. Yes at 26 but no from then on. We know TE wasn't in the discussion at 26. After that, welcome to the Dallas Cowboys Luke Schoonmaker.

Going by what the Cowboys do before the draft, you can kind of tell what they'll do in the first two days. For example, I didn't think we'd see a corner or WR drafted in the first two days. I didn't think we'd draft an OL in the first round.

But of course all this can change depending on who drops. The only pick in the draft I didn't like was our 2nd pick.

The war room video clearly verifies who the discussion was and wasn't about. LaPorta and Kincaid weren't mentioned.
Wasn't that video taken after the Kincaid pick? If so then they would have no reason to discuss Kincaid at that point. While I agree that La Porta was probably higher it is no guarantee that the Cowboys are covering for the fact that they wanted Kincaid. Did the Cowboys want Kincaid? I have no idea, but the Cowboys do have a tendency to telegraph their picks so it is not out of the realm of possibilities.

There will always be some truth mixed in with fantasy about the Cowboys or some team duping another, it is not that big of a deal, we will all know in 9 months who duped who.

Right. So therfore we don't know at all if Kincaid was in discussion or not. So your "98% certain" comment is about as certain as what Big Dog said. Yet you want to act otherwise.
I'm going with the most likely possibly.

There was no audio in the war room. We don't know what was said.
The debate was clearly heard!!! Not sure how you didn't hear it. That's when McClay said to go Mazi because they haven't had a DT ranked so high in many years.

It's out there. I'm not going to take the time to find it. It's probably in the Draft Zone somewhere and likely in the Fan Zone also.

Wrong. Not right at all. There is no speculation at all. Listen and you will hear it also as many in here have as well.
