3 Safety looks

I was just listening to Voch/Broaddus and they were discussing that the team maybe looking more at safety then they are at the cornerback position. Let's keep in mind, our new DB Coach comes from the Arizona Cardinals where they used a ton of three safety looks. Budda Baker played that rover nickel safety role, kind of like how Philly uses Cooper DeJean. We already heard this offseason, how important this position will be in our new scheme which Parker is going to install.

Downs, Thieneman, McNeil-Warren all fit this type of defender they seek. They also need to upgrade the back-end safeties, they would think Wilson and perhaps Hooker could be replaced. Think the deep safeties would be more of a fa priority, perhaps a player who has either play in this scheme or plays in a similar one.

I'm anxious to see how Downs tests at the combine. Probably not Emmanwori athleticism but hopefully above average.

Blankenship would be an obvious FA possibility that could help the players adapt to the defense. Spotrac lists his AAV market value at $7.2M Which is close to Donovan Wilson's cost. A defnsive analyst was on the fan and he said Eberflus' system is pretty simple to learn and Parker's is somewhere between Eberflus' and Flores'.

Very possible if McCoy and Delane are not there at 12. I think our biggest issue with the secondary the last few years have been our safeties. Two new safeties would change our defense for the better. I think if we somehow got Styles he would be an outstanding linebacker/safety hybrid.

I think it could come down to who is the best player available as nickel CB vs nickel safety that can cover.

Stephen recently said Revel and Bland are 2 of the building blocks of the defense so they might feel more confident about CB than a lot of fans do.

Bland could certainly fill that role and then we would need more of a boundary corner, he also could stay there as well. However, I do think this new staff will place a higher priority with the safety position. Eagles for example just drafted Mukuba after those two all pro corners.

Styles will be a full time linebacker on the next level with high level coverage abilities

Think the team will be targeting defensive backs from both the eagles and cardinals as they play in a similar scheme

Could be...I would sign a decent starter CB in FA and chase a safety in the draft.

Safety class is one of the best I can remember.

Yes I listened to that podcast it reoriented my thoughts

I remember hearing we had a framework for a Minkah Fitzpatrick trade if we didn't get Q. I wonder if something could still happen there. Especially with a complete regime change there.

I don't believe Downs is there at 12 as we get further along in the process.

However I love Mcneil-Warren as a true deep FS ans Keionte Scott in the slot and or SS. If we could trade down from 20 somehow and acquire both that would be a dream scenario for me.

Definitely a good year to overhaul the position both in fa and the draft

I am ok with using the picks to build the defense. I like about 28 players in this draft total. They could all come in and improve this team. Some really good linebackers, corners, safeties, and 5 techs in this draft.

I think Kilgor fits it the best as far Non Downs S. He play deep, box and slot at a high level. I think ultimately he is the 2nd S off the board. He is a better player than Thieneman imo

I disagree about him being better, but i know you have been very high on him for weeks

Thats fair. I just see Kilgore as a guy thats capable of a higher level of play. I think he is a potential All Pro caliber starter, whereas I think Theineman is more of an above average starter. They can also do alot of the same things, but I think some key things (like covering the slot), Kilgore is much stronger at

On thing Ill say with Theineman(who I do really like), is I could see him falling into what I call the Eric Weddle Principle. Where you assume because the floor is high, the ceiling is low, and you underestimate upside.
