Be careful what you wish for.

If the Cowboys can't run out of this formation we won't see the results we're hoping for in the passing game. Blitz pickups haven't been the best.

We couldn't run out of the 2 TE formations lately anyways. Maybe spreading the defense out will help someone like Felix since he does better in space.

This argument is so damn stupid. This team is not the team of the 90's. This team will not be the team of the 90's.

And there are also 11 guys on the field who's job it is to prevent you from executing. You might have heard of them, they usually are referred to as the defense.

If you have the talent to line up and smash through everyone, you don't need creativity. If you don't have the talent, you need to compensate a little with playcalling.

...shades of the "Load Left" failure against Philadelphia in 1995...funny one Hoof...:D

The problem with the 2-TE offense is we have failed to use its versatility. Ideally, this offense could be a power running offense, function as a 3-WR offense, a power-I formation or a 4-WR offense when you have two TEs who can block, run TE routes and run WR routes when split out.

We really haven't used much of the flexibility to create the mismatches we want. Maybe that will get worked into the gameplan more next year.

If we could get a first for MartyB, we would be stupid not to take it - we need to shore up the OL and could easily get by with Phillips as the second TE.

...that's all well and good until you lose Witten to an extended injury...we've all been spoiled with his ability to play through pain but you never know when something could put him on the shelf for a long period of time...this offense can ill afford not to have someone perform in his stead...Bennett may yet be that guy...he has the size, he has the talent...

IMO .. if we did a 5050 run pass. or as close as possible.. and gave choice = the amt of carries of barber+ Jones. Offensively unless the penalties kill us . We should be nearly unstoppable.. but with Garrett. idk.. Bennett has been a massive disappointment to me at least. Put him out wide move him around. He looked dominate at times in preseason. The way Austin has looked in previous years.

Bingo.

MartyB's lack of involvement and production in the passing game has relegated it to merely a running offense...I for one still think we should pass to set up the run however, so I'd be fine with spreading it out a bit more with speed, and that may give Felix/Choice a bit more room to run.

As far as Marty B, I dont know that I want to give up on him just yet -- as if he does become a viable threat in the passing game, watch out. I really think the 12 can do some really nice work as a base formation.

Say all you want about needing a backup for Witten, but we need new starters on the OL so resources need to be shifted over there.

This sounds like we are going to be in Shotgun ALOT THIS GAME.

This game could be fun to watch, kinda like an old AFL shootout where both teams are just chunking the ball all over the field. The last team with the ball may win this game. This could be a 48-45 type of game!!!!!

Seriously, I would rather watch Romo playing sandlot ball throwing the ball all over the field than to watch our RBs get tackled after a 2 yard carry.

If this game turns into a shootout, Romo breaks 450 yards. Im calling it!!!!!!

Like Dallas was so unpredictable in the 90's. LOL. They just "excecuted" the plays. Every team in the NFL knew exactly what they were gonna run. Emmitt run, Novie or Emmitt run on 2nd, Irvin/ Novie on 3rd.. Done. Nothing new here, move along.

All the players have to do is execute and this team would be fine. It's more on the players then the scheme.

You really dragged this thread kicking into the garbage can with this post. Nice job. ;)
  • The 90s team was not predictable.
  • They ran the play action pass better than I have seen most teams do in the last 13 or so year.
  • The 90s team was something special. Any comparison to that squad makes you look.. well... desperate.

Thank you, Hoof. It has really gotten old when people compare the 90s Cowboys(one of the greatest teams of all time) to the current joke of a team we have now.

Thank you both for completely missing the point. Point being, I am not comparing the two. That would be ridiculous. I am comparing that fact that the players need to execute better. If they are not good enough. Get other players. In the 90's, there was very little. But, there was the attitude of "this is what we are going to run, stop us". That is the mentality those teams had .

LOL, And now playaction is "trickery", gimme a break.

Just remember that 3 and 4 WR sets leave the QB and running game very vulnerable.

Also...as for those teams of the 90s...sometimes we forget that it was the end of the salary cap era. You could stock players and depth back then...no more. It is pretty much impossible to keep that kind of talent in the era.

Didn't Garrett realize he could exploit the outside lanes with screen passes, fly patterns, and post patterns?

Roy and Romo have been generous to me these past couple of weeks. Collectively they've been giving me about 60-70 points.

The Chargers are playing 2 safeties in their dime package and a safety in their 4-3-5 look., I think I read that. I think they will have trouble covering the Cowboys if they go 3 WR.

Where is Ogletree? I guess he did too good at Philadelphia.

Get Felix Jones on a linebacker in space, please..

I don't think Cromartie can cover the quick, speedy Austin.

Asomugha couldn't cover him.
