I totally agree with you on him. He may not be selected on day one, but that doesn't mean he's not that good, look at Harrington, he was selected top 3. David says that he was awful last year with about 26 tds and 2500 yards despite missing 2 games with a shoulder injury, but his off year was as good as or better than Jay Cutler's best year, yet Cutler is a first rounder. Does that make any sense?

please...if stats were all that mattered nobody would ever draft a bust at QB now would they? Cutler played against quality to elite teams in the SEC on a weekly basis and put up good numbers with an offense cast that features virtually no NFL prospects...there is a HUGE difference in talent between Cutler and Jacobs

Jacobs plays in a shotgun, popgun offense vs extremely mediocre teams...he is a huge prospect and if you watch him throw any you know why I think he's a lousy prospect...most of the draft preview write ups on him are filled with more negatives than positives

That same style of offense and same level of competition also has produced Byron Leftwich (Marshall), Chad Pennington (Marshall), Ben Roethlisberger (Miami-Ohio), and Charlie Frye (Akron).

If you want to make absurd statements, it helps knowing what you are talking about.

Leftwich still isnt what I'd call a "good" QB...average maybe, but even at that people were raving about his pure throwing ability, especially his accuracy on the intermeidate routes

Pennington didnt play out of the shotgun exclusively, niether did Frye...and Frye proved in the postseason all star games and workouts that he had the footwork to work from behind center in a traditional offense

Roesthlisberger is the one of the above that clearly isnt like the others...he has elite talent and has proven it on the field so far

IMO this years draft is a little deeper than last years. The value in this draft, is all in the late 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Rounds. I think it would be a good idea to try and get an extra 3rd.

Here's my 3 favorite sleepers.

1. Cedric Griffin (FS/CB) Texas - Fellow Longhorn Michael Huff will be a top 10 pick..... I watched Griffin play quite a bit at UT, there's not that large of gap between him and Huff. Also, former teammate Nathan Vasher was selected in the 5th round of 2004 and Chicago couldn't have made a better choice. Ced got into a little trouble his Sr. year, this is one of the reasons he may still be there in the 3rd. I want Griffin!

I have to agree on this one because he has a nose for the ball, he could hit, he's versatile, and can be just as good as Michael Huff.

2. Devin Hester (DB, PR, KR, WR) Miami - For those who are so high on Cromartie..... this dude's just as good of an athlete and he'll probably be there for the taking in the 3rd. I'd take him! A threat everytime he has the ball and he oozes upside.

This is a player that Bill Parcells like because of the Woody Dantzler like versatility to play all of these positions of need, just in case somebody goes down, Hester will be quality insurance.

3. Rodrique Wright (DT) Texas - I really dont see why Rod is being projected as a late 2nd or early 3rd round prospect. From what I've seen, he'll be a good NFL player. No doubt he'd be a steal in the 3rd!

I can't say enough about him, I believe if the Dallas Cowboys could draft him in the second they have a steal, I doubt seriously if he reaches the third round because of his versatile upside at playing DE/DT and also being compared to the likes of Richard Seymore just like Chris Canty was.

So who are your 3rd round sleepers?

4. Maurice Stovall (Wr) Notre Dame- 6'5 and pretty decent speed.. Think Keyshawn minus the mouth
Is a quality possesion type Wide Receiver that can take in the shoes of a Keyshawn Johnson better yet a Joe Jurevicious, maybe even a Musin Muhammad type Wide Receiver, someone that goes through the middle, someone that could be a dominant force under attack, and he cand probably help a little at block as a tight end on some plays.

All of these players are true sleepers...

I like:

Demetrius WilliamsHeight: 6-1 3/4 | Weight: 197 | 40-Time: 4.46
Official Bio

Strengths:
Smooth athlete with good quickness...Has pretty good size with long arms and the frame to pack on some pounds...Tremendous leaper with outstanding body control...Is slippery in the open field...Adjusts to the poorly thrown ball well and will make the difficult catch...A major deep threat with great ball skills...Will eat up man coverage...Still improving and seemed to save his best for last in 2005.

Weaknesses:
A bit on the slight side and needs to add some weight...Lacks elite timed speed, although he plays faster when the pads are on...May have trouble beating the jam as a pro...Is not a great route runner and does a lot of his damage running vertical routes...Will drop some catchable balls...Needs to refine his technique and master the nuances of the position...Might still be a little too one-dimensional.

Notes:
Hails from the famed De La Salle (California) high school program...Really helped himself out with a fantastic senior campaign for the Ducks...Might never be a true #1 wide receiver at the pro level but could be an excellent secondary option.

I'm liking this pick more and more too. If he's there in the 3rd (maybe the 2nd) he's a strong choice.

I really only watched Stovall this year, but in the ND games I personally watched I cam away very impressed with his ability, in fact the only reason I can see he is not afirst round pick is because everybody says so. He sure looked the part, I really didn't see many drops, He was money in the red zone. That Zmardga guy is a beast.

As far as third round sleepers here are the guys I hope drop to the third:
#1 Pat Watkins
#2 Charles Spencer
#3 Johnathan Scott
#4 Daniel Bullocks
#5 Cedric Griffin
#6 Rodrique Wright
#7 Maurice Stovall
#8 Anthony Fasano

I'd be happy if WR Martin Nance was still kicking around in the 3rd-round. He's big, has nice hands, has nice speed and is an outside deep threat, isn't afraid to go over the middle and is tough and can take a pounding, and is a willing and able blocker.

the stats are nice, but you also have to remember ND threw the ball an awful lot...I like him as a player but he isnt a sure thing by any stretch IMO

David

Yes they did throw the ball a lot but it wasn't a ridiculous amount you must remember they still had a 1000 yard rusher....

I know this is off-topic, but how come BP didn't take Jerome Mathis last year. He was a sleeper, and look where he ended up (Pro Bowl). I know Dallas scouted him; we could've used a speedy WR/KR.

That would be tremendous backup CB.

Hester is exactly like Cromartie in that neither were good enough to start as college football players but the hype machine has built their draft stock way too high.

That is the most assinine comment I have seen since posting here. Guys at 6'2 and about 210 dont run the short shuttle like guys 5 inches shorter and 15-25 lbs lighter. If he didnt get hurt, we wouldnt be in the ballpark.

Junior Year (2005): One of the nation's top corners who missed all of 2005 with a preseason knee injury...a preseason Playboy All-American...was going to start at left corner this season after rotating with Bryant McFadden and Leroy Smith in 2004...listed as the No. 2 cornerback in the nation and a first team preseason All-American by The Sporting News..

Now, back on the topic. I dont think you draft "sleepers in the third round. Youre still talking top 100 talents. That being said, my pick is Barry Cofield.

Because there was a run on RBs in the 4th and a big drop off after that. So we essentially took Barber over Mathis. I have no problem with that since he started and performed well for us last year.
