3rd String QB, My Convoluted Thoughts

Or Parcells wanted more as I already said.

My thought: Parcells wants his guys (Pennington and Henne) to have every opportunity to succeed ahead of Beck.

I would take Beck over Simms and Bollinger because he would be the closest thing to a developmental player. That is all I would be looking for at this point in the season.

That's a cop out. If you have something to say, say it. I don't run from anything. Why should you?

Thats not a cop out. Its just that I don't like to see Hostile get well... Hostile. :laugh2:

I have never denied that MW. In 2007 who was the QB I wanted us to get and why did I want us to get him? For the exact same reasons I am stating today. It really isn't all that hard to figure me out, all you have to do is ask. I don't hide from anything.

Why the hell not? Sometimes it's cotton picking funny.

I'm not at all heated. My BP hasn't risen on either the systolic or the dyostolic.

I didn't realize you had a Bill Parcells that could rise on systolic or dyostolic. :lmao2:

Blood Pressure.

Sheesh. Now I am pissed.

All this angst over a third QB who wouldn't be "activated" most weeks, if at all. Surely we have bigger problems.

"We do, and don't call me Shirley."

Now I'm cracking lame Airplane jokes.

No, there are no bigger problems. Can't you see this has us worked up?

I attributed it to the lack of Roy sucks threads. ;)
I swear if this thread gets hijacked you will have a flaming bag of poo on your doorstep.

I think guys like Beck and Simms, may have a shot at being more than a #3 QB in the league. For that reason, I'd find it hard for either of them to want to sign with Dallas (this season). It's sort of like why Danny Amendola chose Dallas over Philly (as rumor has it); because this situation was better for him (already learning the system, familiar with coaches/players/facilities/fans and close to home).

I think those guys have to weigh whether they want to come here and likely not see the field in 2008 (get a year older, a year more rusty, etc) or go somewhere that they may have that opportunity to play now (or close to now).

If we end up in a situation where the #3 QB is needed, we're screwed anyway. I think there's an opportunity to try to get by this season and look at guys next year (by draft/FA/trade)

I apologize in advance for not reading this whole thread before posting, so I may end up dealing with some of the issues others have already talked about.

I believe Brooks Bollinger is a #2. I don't think he's a life-long third QB. I think he's a better player than a lot of fans give him credit for. From that point alone, I understand Dallas' interest in him. Brad Johnson won't be around forever, and with Bollinger you are getting a guy you can win with.

I don't think Bollinger is as talented as Chris Simms. I can't imagine anybody arguing over that either. Simms is a very talented guy. In fact, he's so talented that he should probably be a starting QB in the league again one day. With all due respect, that isn't going to happen in Dallas as long as Romo is around. Actually, Simms isn't even going to be starting here this year IF Romo goes down. Brad Johnson would likely get the job short-term. So I don't know if that fit is quite as good. If I was Simms, I would rather go somewhere else.

John Beck is a young, talented guy, but I haven't seen enough of him. I don't think he's ready to win as a QB in this league. When will he be? Ideally, I would like to get a guy as a third QB who you can hold on to and turn into a bigger asset - like Matt Schaub. But I'm not sure Beck is that guy. I don't know that he'll ever be a legitimate starter (In fairness, I don't know that he won't either.), so I can understand not wanting to pay the price to bring him in.

So I sort of think that Bollinger is the best option for what Dallas wants and needs. It doesn't preclude you from looking for another young QB to groom either, in my opinion.
