3rd WR Position Battle

Let's face it, after the first 2 pre-season games, Dwayne Harris has been nonexistent. Even though T. Williams has yet to play in a pre-season game, do you think that the lack of production by D. Harris has moved T. Williams closer to solidifying the 3rd WR spot for Game 1?

Williams and Harris are not viaing for the slot position. Williams is an outside WR not a slot guy. People talk about a #3 WR but I don't think quite understand it. Williams will be coming in for Austin and Dez not as an inside guy like Harris.

However, if you recall Robinson played the slot for a bit until Austin had trouble with his wheels.

I believe the team looks back at that season and understands what a terrific addition Robinson was. Both as a third WR and a safety net for Austin.

They may be trying to reproduce that cadre of receivers with a kid who showed very well in college.

I like Harris. I suspect Williams will be the eventual replacement for Austin if he can live up to his college days.

I like Freddie a great deal and hope he pans out at OL.

But I believe I may be most excited about Williams and Randall. Williams more so.

Yes a player can move into the slot, Dez can lineup at times in a slot but for the most part he is an outside WR same with Williams. Harris and Beasley are inside guys. Thing is the position are not 1, 2 and 3 WR they are X,Y and Z which determines where they line up not a situation of who is next in line if Dez or Miles goes out of the game.

I've seen him open on several patterns. He doesn't get thrown to. That's not his fault.

Haven't the writers been saying for a couple of weeks that Williams is the #3 in practices?

Aren't they looking for the third wide out to be an outside guy?

That's what I read as well, because they want Miles in the slot on a good portion of the snaps, and based on what we saw in the Raiders game you could see why

Williams is the #3 WR. Drafted for that reason and is worth the hype. He will get a chance next week to show it on the field. I think the Cowboys are giving Beasley a chance to prove he can play special teams to justify dressing him on game day. #4 or #5 WRs have to contribute on special teams.

i think williams was drafted to be the future 2. i don't think he has earned the 3 yet this year. but he will get plenty of playing time to develope him because i think they would like him to take over the 2 next year. harris will also get playing time because they know he is a playmaker. they know harris will be active for games because he is the return guy. they seem to be looking at who else can contribute in that role.

Good points. People expect every draft pick to have a position set in stone. I credit the Cowboys with taking guys like Williams and Escobar who can produce some right away but even more in future seasons.

Hey Brian,

Quit reading my posts and stealing my words.. thanks.

Hey RTH, I don't know exactly how you feel about this, but I've been noticing something strange. I think that Brian needs to quit reading your posts and stealing your words. Thoughts?

:D

Harris can certainly play the outside.. if you watched the games last year, you know he was put there just as much as he was put inside by the coaching staff.

Well just cause they put him there doesnt mean he was effective there. One look at the passer rating when throwing to Harris will tell you that he wasnt used properly.

Harris is a slot guy/returner, trying to make him anymore than that is just homerism in its purest form just like it was done with Crayton.

The coaches believe he has earned the #3 spot hence why he was playing with the 1st before he got hurt. Of course every player has to earn his spot but just because you don’t see it doesn’t mean he hasn’t.
