40 touches

Think a few fans were concern about his workload but to be honest it's nowhere near DeMarco Murray's 2014 workload when he lead the league in rushing. That year Murray had 392 rushing attempts and 57 catches from 64 targets for a total 449 touches according to Pro Football Reference: s://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/M/MurrDe00.htm

Zeke current have 268 rushing attempts 65 catches from 81 targets for a total 333 touches with 3 games to play.

It appears the coaches learned their lesson from overworking Murray.

They need to get some leads and maintain them, then they can cut back on those touches.
But yet still get him his ruxpshing yards.

Didnt realize how many times a player touched the ball made him any better or worse lol. Hell Dak touched it twice as many times as that last game, he must be a double HOFer:laugh:

Put Murray in the HOF hawk!

The fo knew they couldn't resign Murray, ergo they deliberately decided to run him into the ground. It worked. He did little for the eagles the following season.

Hopefully he can start breaking long runs soon to offset some of those touches. It would help if he could start making the last guy miss at the 2nd level.

40 touches a game will likely put Elliott into early retirement, hopefully we can spread it around a bit more and still remain effective.
40 touches a game is not called cool, it’s called stupid.

This is an either/or. Either the Cowboys don't have long term second contract plans for Zeke so they’re using him like a racehorse with a short career...OR if they plan on keeping him around as an effective weapon on a longer basis, they better cutback on the workload.

NFL history is full of guys with consecutive 400+ Touch seasons whose careers are shot by 27-29. About 350 touches a season is usually a workload that maximizes a guy’s talent without shaving off years of his effectiveness.

I don't think that is very accurate. Only a handful of guys have had consecutive seasons with 400+ touches.

James Wilder did it. He really didn't get a heavy workload his first 3 years in the league. He then got 400 touches his 4th and 5th season at ages 26 and 27, respectively. After that he returned to not so heavy workload.

Terrell Davis did it and then blew out his leg.

Ricky Williams did it. He had other issues.

Curtis Martin, LaDanian Tomlinson, Edgerrin James, Eric Dickerson, Walter Payton and Emmitt Smith all had stellar careers after having consecutive seasons of 400+ touches.

The season isn't over and maybe Elliott doesn't get 400 touches this year. He is sitting at 333 touches. And who knows if he gets 400+ touches next season.

Playoffs are coming.

Those games matter more.

Start getting him ready.

A fresh Zeke is what this team needs. They’re being smart with Martin. I’d like to see Tyron get another week off as well.

If the cowboys lock up the division before the final game. And it’s very likely that they will, I could easily see the coaches sitting Zeke or giving him only a couple touches at most in the final game.

So it’s actually very unlikely that he makes it to 400 touches.

And I also agree with you. His workload isn’t excessive compared to other workhorse running backs in league history. Zeke was drafted so high because he is built to be a workhorse back. The special workhorses can handle the touches he is receiving.

Zeke also didn’t have many touches last year due to the suspension.

I’m not worried about him.

how good of a player do you have to be to get 40 touches? I mean some players only get 5-10. But 40 TOUCHES. This is dominating this is being a impact player, Zeke is a monster!! He should be in the HOF when it’s said and done hopefully with a couple of championships..:flagwave:
He had more than 40 touches at the topless bar last week!
