Just to show how meaningless it is to measure a players speed on a race track for 40 yards without pads....here ya go
And yet you took the time to post that....lolThis thread is the waste of time...

So because the fastest guys weren't the best football players means the 40 is meaningless? That is ridiculous.
The 40 and vertical jump are 2 great tests of explosiveness and they are the 2 top ways IMO to indicate upside at specific positions.
This is why Leighton Vander Esch was being overlooked by some people.
He's 6'4 250 and people didn't like him because he played at Boise but you watch the tape and see a guy that's incredible in space on top of that his testing is off the charts then it was a clear indicator that he should be going higher then what his projection is.
Tavon Austin is one of the fastest on the team yet would not consider him a star player. 40 like the other measurement do matter but none of the over riding factor. 40 time means nothing if the WR can't run routs of hang on to the ball. Some of the all time greats like Rice and Irvin were mid 40 guys
There are exceptions.
Super slow guys can find success.
Midget QB's have recently found success.
But for the most part the safer investment is the guys that properly measure up.
Tavon Austin was labeled a gadget player before he ever stepped foot on an NFL field and didn't surprise anyone that he has been no better then what he is.
