I've followed the Sonics since the mid-1970s when Bill Russell was coaching them.

I rejoiced when Lenny Wilkens took over and led them to the NBA championship in 1979.

I loved Dennis Johnson and Gus Williams.

Fred Brown was a favorite, too.

I liked Jack Sikma's unorthodox jumpshot and hair.

I enjoyed Dale Ellis drilling a 3.

I liked watching the X-Man compete.

I enjoyed seeing the 6-10 Tom Chambers move with the agility of a guard.

Detlef Schrempf was one of my all-time favorite players.

I cheered when they made it to the finals against the Bulls in 1996.

I was extremely sad when Dennis Johnson passed away.

I had hope after Kevin Durant landed in their laps last year.

Now, it's all gone.

I never cared much when a professional franchise moved (for whatever reason). It was always somebody else's team.

But I've learned today it sucks when it happens to a team you've followed since you were a kid.

Thanks for letting me vent/mourn.

All I know is there will now be a NBA team just about 2 1/2 hours away from my home.

I've heard rumors of there being an NBA team in Memphis but I have yet to see it. :D

Don't get too attached.

Actually, I wouldn't consider myself a die-hard fan or anything, at least not in recent years.

It's just a weird feeling knowing that the team you followed for so long no longer exists.

it sucks. i would have liked the sonics to stay in seattle, but what can you do.

seattle will probably get another nba team in a couple of years. maybe the grizzlies or bobcats

Well the colors and the name "Super Sonics" will be staying in Seattle. So if city can find a way to raise 300 million in the next 5 years (only 225 million considering their buy out), then the Super Sonics will be back. So, its up to the city--it always was.

Exactly. The Hornets are an organization to keep an eye on for a potential future move. Their playoff push bought them a few more years, but they are barely scraping by.

This is as bad as when they stole the Grizzlies from Vancouver.

How did we steal the Grizzlies? Vancouver didn't support them and didn't want them anymore.
