Guys this is very simple to understand. He called time out to give the punt returner a chance to make a play. If the returner gave us good field position, Parcells probably would have tried to score again, but he did not, so Parcells did not want to put Henson in a position where he could make a mistake and further diminish his confidence. It was the right thing to do. Parcells knew we would get the ball back to start the half and Henson could start a new drive then without having to rush and possibly making a bad mistake.
 
Better a kneel down than trying to force a play and get an int returned for a td plus we were getting the ball back to start the 3rd quarter.

I'm going to put my neck out on the block here and accept any criticism that someone wants to throw my way. I can handle it.

I'm tired of Henson. I'm tired of the hype and tired of people saying "just one more year." Listen up: HE DOESN'T HAVE WHAT IT TAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!

He was annointed the golden child when he was signed two years ago. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't annointed players usually ones that don't have questions about whether or not they can do the job? Aikman was the annointed one. He struggled his first season, improved in the second and went to the SB in the third. That is a Golden Child. Henson will never be that person. I don't want to waste a roster spot on a person that is never going to materialize into THE guy.

BS!!!! He has been given an equal opportunity the last couple of years that Romo has (if not more because Jerrah has demanded it), and he still hasn't come around.

Don't feed me that line either. If he is a professional and threw 5,000 balls this season to perfect it, then he should damn well have it down. He doesn't.

Don't get me wrong. I wish the best for the kid as I do anyone who has the ability to do what he does. But, I don't want it to continue for this team. It's time for him to go.

Look at it this way. Jerry invested in the future of the team, so we'll look at it from a financial standpoint. If you purchase a stock that is in a volatile field, you let the stock broker manage it and make necessary moves to earn money. If the stock falters and doesn't recover, you sell it and look for another stock that will make you money. You don't continue to lose money and hope it turns around. It doesn't work that way.

This is a business and a business decision needs to be made.

And Henson is essentially a rookie.

This nonsense talk about cutting Henson is utterly ********. He would be picked up IMMEDIATELY.

Exactly Yeager. It was preseason. Why not throw the ball down the field. So what if it is intercepted. It's not a permanent stat and it won't affect the Boys regular season. Everyone wants to see what he can do, except for BP.

Wouldn't it be nice to possibly score a TD with the 2-minute drill and have the chance to go up by 14 with the first drive of the second half?

BP has zero confidence in Henson.

If he would be picked up immediately, why hasn't there been any calls about a trade if he's so good.

Henson is not a rookie. He played last year and even started a game. He has more actual game experience than Romo. Does that mean Romo is a rookie.

I concede on the SB point. But, my point was Aikman improved every year.

I said Henson is "essentially" a rookie. He was out of football for three years and shouldn't even have sniffed the field last year. Romo played 4 years in college and is now in his 3rd year in the system.

Aikman improved every year because of his talent and because he was on the field learning. Henson has talent. But is it his fault that he's not on the field learning at this point? Yes, because he has been out of the game for a long time. No, because that is Bill's decision.

Man, Carter was a rookie all the time he was a Cowboy too. Its amazing how players remain rooks for more than a year. :laugh1:

Where have you seen this talent? BP hasn't seen it. Football beat writers haven't seen it. No one else has seen it.

Where do you classify Antonio Gates who never played college ball, came into the league as a rookie and set a record for TDs by a TE?

People have talent to play the game and others don't. It's not a knock on him. It's just how it is.

You're right man. Henson doesn't have talent. What was I thinking? Obviously BP hasn't seen it (don't know how you know), football beat writers haven't (if you ignore the dozens of articles that say he does), and no one else has seen it also (if you ignore myself and about ten other posters on this board).

The probability that someone who has never played any type of football at the college or professional (Arena league or CFL) level succeeding in the NFL is minimal. What does Antonio Gates have to do with Henson?

The only reason I mentioned Gates was to point out that you either have the talent or you don't no matter how many games you've played. I agree, the probability is small, but Gates did it. I'm sure others have done it. If Henson does come around, he could be on that list too, after all, he played in I believe 8 college games. Just because you have the size and arm strenghth does not mean you are going to be a great QB. Is anyone calling Dan Orlovsky at Detroit the next great thing. He certainly has everything someone looks for in a prototypical QB. But, no one is tooting his horn.

Remember Ryan Leaf. He had the tools and the skill. Granted, he was a head case, but, he did have the attributes. SD saw it. Dallas saw it. Unfortunately, this isn't a league where you develop players. You draft players.

Let me ask you this. If you had to choose between Carson Palmer, Byron Leftwich, Drew Henson and Chris Simms, who would you choose.
 
Leftwich. But it's not fair to group Henson with the other three because of reasons already stated.
 
If you wouldn't have selected him in the first place, how can he be considered the future? that's my point. Most back him up because he is on the team. All I see when I look at Henson is a mirror image of Hutch. Nothing more, nothing less.

If the boys do cut him and another team picks him up, I really do hope he develops into a fine QB. I just don't think that place is here.
 
Some posters are hitting this on the head. Henson was pressing when he was running the offense. Why force Henson into a two-minute drill where he'd press even more and be more apt to causing a turnover or disaster.

If Bill was really fed up with Drew, Romo would have started the 2nd half.
