Eventually you need the QB to win a game for you. Or at least be a huge difference maker. Because there is always going to be an elite QB that will put up points on that D. No matter how great they are. It's inevitably going to happen.

49ers are still an elite QB away from being a true SB contender imo. Three years ago Jimmy G could not make the plays when he absolutely had to. Last year he folded when his D wasn't getting turnovers.

I just don't see Purdy ever outdueling a Mahomes or Allen type QB in a SB. A 7th round QB can only be carried so far.
I do not hold to that belief. Teams win games, not QBs. This has been, and always will be true.

This fascination with QBs and insistence that they are the end all be all is foolish IMO. Always has been.

Two points. We're very easy to run against unless we completely focus on the run. Which we can't do against the unequivocal playoff GOAT. And do you know who plays QN for the Bucs?
Yet they are struggling to get to .500.

I honestly think Brady gets bored in the regular season after playing in 67 of them, and the Bucs have had a ridiculous run of injuries.
One iron clad guarantee - Brady will play lights out against us next week, and if we give him the ball with under 4 minutes to go in a one score game, we will lose.
Under no circumstances would I punt with over 45 seconds to play in that game. Your offense has a much better chance of converting even a 4th and 10 than your defense has stopping him in the last minute of a playoff game.

Go look at SB 54.

The 49ers played better for 3.5 quarters probably.

But when it came time for both QB's to make plays, the elite one made his plays. The mere good one did not. That was the difference.

Or even look at the NFC title game last year. You can play well for most of the game. But the odds are that you need your QB to eventually make big plays in crunch time.

49ers aren't going to win the Super Bowl with a rookie QB, but they can knock a team out of contention. I still have odds on Eagles going and probably losing to the Chiefs.
Exactly, purdy didnt play against a great team since he took over, chiefs eagles could go either way like the patriots eagles 2017.

Eagles aren’t going to the SB either.
Eagles are better than the 49ers especially since its a home game , the cowboys can surprise the eagles at home but thats about it. laner johnson back will be important for the eagles. they are 13-0 with him i think.

Crunch time...another myth.

QB can't do anything at the end if the defense gives up 50.

Always the team.

Why not example the Broncos Seahawks superbowl? Or the 2000 Ravens? Or the countless other games where teams with great QBs got their butts kicked by a good D?
