I had hopes for Austin, but that faded pretty quick. But still had a sliver of hope during last season. But no way was he coming back this season.
Cobb would have been signed over him.

And thank you Houston for over paying him, as we would not have CeeDee Lamb otherwise. Or may have not. Would the draft strategy been different if Cobbwas signed?

Floaty is misguided, but our 4th WR spot is lacking. I am not certain Devin Smith or Cedrick Wilson are the prime fits there.
Pollard likely gets many of the snaps a 4th WR might normally get.

Huh??? Guy is not a good football player. Injury prone. Small. Character issues. Getting older. Big time pass.

Character issues? You couldn’t be more wrong. For whatever reason Tavon’s NFL career has never been that great but he’s always been a good team guy and always worked hard. I wish him the best in SF and hope he finally gets a chance to touch the ball more than once every few games. But with the addition of Lamb and with what we have in Pollard he wasn’t needed here any longer.

Did you see the Hard Knocks? He was an idiot.

Tavon never did anything so he’s considered worthless? This is coming from a lot of the same people who blame lack of production from several players on coaching. Same people who blame coaching on wasting several players careers  It would be hilarious if Tavon turned into a good contributor for SF, good for him getting another chance.

Look at his production, not his 40 time. :)
Look what he can do...play special teams....return punts and kicks. Yet we are dumb enough to expose our number one pick to this... risk losing him to injury. Dumb move IMO....

If you want to know why we under perform year after year look no further than Tavon Austin. A veritable poster child for Cowboys football.

He did play 5 years with the Rams and produced very little. Just under 1700 receiving yards in a 5 year career for the 8th overall pick says more about the individual player than the coaching and cast around him. He may get more opportunities in San Francico, but he is likely not going to be appreciably better now at age 30 than he has been his entire 7 year career. And as the 4th WR in Dallas the last two seasons, there was no reason to expect big things from him anyway.

Just going on the record as saying...we are gonna miss his speed. We just don't have that kind of guy...and we need that.
What did his speed do for us before? Even for the Rams, who used a 1st round pick on him but were willing to trade him for a 6th round pick?

Sprinter's speed is a nice asset, but well below route running, hands and focus …. Austin's diminutive size didn't help either.

As one poster said, look at his production, not his 40 time.

Very valid points!

He was drafted as RB, his size limited his RB role. You needed to design plays to get him away from the heavies. The rams decided you know what maybe a slot receiver, the issue there is he has the receiving prowess of most running backs. He could run with the wind but being 5'8" and former running back he did not have the natural catching ability of guys that played WR most of their football lives.
