49ers still adding guys to that defensive line

If Joseph-Day really better than Neville Gallimore, or is he the same player? I am not saying Gallimore is good but while Gallimore does not have the stats of Joseph-Day, he doesn't play much either. IMO, these two guys are very similar players.

I would have taken a look at him if I was Dallas but SJD has played for the Rams, Chargers and now 49ers. Maybe he wats to stay on the west coast.

Sounds like a gamble. I'm not saying the 49ers can't win that gamble, but there definitely is risk.
How's it a gamble? What's the worst thing that happens? He doesn't play well. He was a captain of the Chargers and apparently a really good dude and clubhouse guy.

So what's the risk?

Why did Chargers release him?
He's a FA and not likely coming back. With Staley now out and having to rebuild the coaching staff, etc, they are likely going to be in churn and burn mode. Joseph-Day was likely expendable.

There is also a report from Chargers Wire that they cut him so he could latch onto a playoff team but that seems refuted by other reports that some were surprised the Chargers cut him.

Oh, so is that any different than us where our top DT is also hurt and the rest of the guys are JAGs?

You aren't make much sense here.
Hankins is not their top DT, it's not multiple DTs. Day is also a JAG. It's not like you sub Gallimore with Day and notice any difference lol.

Day probably didn't want to leave California, it's not like Dallas was ever in the running. Cowboys fans are obsessed with assuming that every FA would choose Dallas if the Cowboys were interested. There's no appeal to Dallas when your whole career - and wife/kids - are already in California, and your from Pittsburgh lol.

LOL.

Joseph-Day would be an upgrade on Gallimore. I mean I get it, you are wired to defend the Cowboys but trying to float the notion that our DTs are good enough where we couldn't use a guy like Jospeh-Day is pretty funny............ especially after watching the Bills jam it down our throats and then the Dolphins just humiliate us on the game winning drive by running it right at us and we couldn't do squat to stop them.

I don't think every FA wants to come here. But I also have zero doubt that the Cowboys likely didn't even consider adding him.

I agree Neville gallimore is a backup who doesn't get as many snaps so if you project him out to the fact that those numbers you're looking at from SJD are for 14 games this year he started every game started every game the year before at least he's consistent and healthy but those numbers are not blockbuster that contract was absolutely terrible for a guy like him which by the way I guarantee he probably chose the 49ers like you said he probably wanted to stay there in California... Everyone here thinks every player that's cut available for trade or is a free agent the Cowboys should pick him up we should just add every single player that comes available as if they would choose to come here and we have first choice over everyone it's kinda silly...

We're lucky to have the number 5
We are in a pretty good spot having at least the 5 and could be the 1 or 2 in a wide open race. Any of the playoff teams could win.

LOL.

They are going to play Hankins.

Replacing one bad DT with another bad DT solves nothing. It doesn't matter if he's an "upgrade," it's not enough that it would make any difference.

The Bills killed them on the edges, the DTs weren't the problem.

"I have zero doubt..." so in other words you just make things up and have complete conviction. Cool way to live. I have zero doubt that Day's agent called Jerry Jones and said "I don't want to go live in that crappy state." Both of those things are equally true.

Yeah I think it’s lazy to think DT play is why we get gashed.

It’s funny though this team use to go out and sight the player other teams didn’t want…Pac ‘Man, Tank, Hardy…it never works out. Never. I get fans want change for the sake of change but damn lol…y’all be asking for players yall never even heard of lol.

The risk is they use up a roster spot for him, only for him to get hurt or underperform.

This is the difference between a SB contender and a 2nd round exit team. After the draft is over, our FO's job is essentially done. Meanwhile, the Eagles, 49ers, etc. are still on the search for talent and attempting to work deals.

Oh no it's a bunch of issues but DT play is a big factor

Oh no it's a bunch of issues but DT play is a big factor and it's kind of silly to try to argue that we don't have issues at DT.
We have issues at DT no doubt. We need better play at the 1 tech. But make no mistake that with better defensive tackle play we still get our edges ran all over us.

The issues we have requires different personnel at linebacker that we don’t currently have and if we need Bobby Wagner and Kj Wright in their prime we are in trouble..

gronk is a front runner who retires when he can’t play with brady
He was right with that quote though. 90s cowboys had players who always wanted to get better, who HATED losing or poor performance, would NOT accept it(Irvin, Haley and Aikman in particular)…I don’t know if I see that winners mentality in this team.
