4th And Long is recorded in Winter going into the spring... Joe Avezzano recap Post#5

As much as I think any of these guys have no chance at all, whoever the winner is could easily take Bobby or Stanback's spot and the team wouldn't take a hit in production at all.

When's the finale? Pretty much all that I am interested in.

It might not mean anything, but Hawkins isn't signed with an NFLPA-certified agent right now. Holley is, and Moten is. Smith is not.

Holley also is the only one who has been signed by an NFL team before.

via wikipedia.com-

Andrew Hawkins (born March 10, 1986, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania) is a professional American and Canadian football wide receiver for the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League. He was signed by the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2008. He played college football for the Toledo Rockets.

That's a great point.

If Hawkins won this thing you would think he would have a legit agent right now. I wonder if he even had an agent work out his CFL deal?

By the way. Montreal Alouettes vs Saskatchewan Roughriders CFL game (channel 681 on DTV) on tomorrow at 3pm eastern, lol.

I want to see if Hawkins even suits up for this game because the final episdoe of 4th and Long is on Monday Night.

Even with Hawkins size I just believe he has the much better chance of making this team.

I can't see Holley making a difference on special teams at all.

Bobby Carpenter?

1) Hawkins
2) Holley
3) Moten

My guess is that we go with Holley but Hawkins has won my vote. Moten is pretty decent, the guy has been playing with a banged up knee and is still in this..

Hawkins is on the field for the Alouettes today.

He just had a shot at recovering a blocked punt, but the ball got kicked out of the way.

And he looks pretty small out there.

Wow, good find.

So I guess it's Holley like everyone suspected.

CRAP!

I so wanted it to be Hawkins. IMO, he is the only one that could have had any kind of a shot at actually helping us this year (punt returns).

I just hope he doesn't get cut because of something crazy like "the first one to 5 wins". That is so incredibly slanted towards the DB's that it isn't even funny. The DB simply has to use pass interference to keep the WR from catching the pass and they are good to go. If Hawkins gets cut for some BS like that, I'll be very disappointed.

Oh well... I didn't expect anything from the show anyway.

that last white guy to get cut was on 2 Kansas City Chief practice squads

I meant of the four guys left.

Wikipedia is wrong (big surprise, I know). Hawkins never signed a contract with the Browns. He had a free-agent tryout with the Browns (along with 53 other guys) but wasn't signed.

Not to mention that the receiver would be lucky to get three catchable passes thrown to him.

Yes Bobby Carpenter. I realize they couldn't take Bobby's spot but was just pointing out that Carp is worthless.

Well, I figured you didn't think they'd take his spot, but it was a weird player to try to substitute. Regardless, I think it's a safe bet we'll need our nickle ILB more than our 5th WR.

Meh. Were talking about adding a guy who will probably do nothing. Just thought it made sense that he would take the roster spot of a guy who does nothing.

Hawkins put the ball on the ground too often.........

Yep, and quickness is the only advantage he has over Holley who is bigger, stronger, more versatile, more consistent, and doesn't fumble the ball. Holley is easily the best of the lot. I think too many people think speed is the end all be all. Holley is also a good tackler and blocker, neither of which has Hawkins stood out.

lmao wow. You must not have seen the show much.

Hawkins played BOTH WAYS in D.1 football. He can not only play WR but play DB. He also can return kicks and punts. Not to mention Michael Irvin and Joe complimented Hawkins on being a great blocker. He not only drove Washington back, but drove him 5 yards out of bounds and pancaked him. All the while Holley had a good block as well. I don't know how you can say Holley is better though? Push, maybe. Hawkins has been a great blocker the entire show.

Holley CANT CATCH. That is a vital part of being a WR. He dropped multiple passes EVERY EPISODE. He has no explosiveness, and no shiftiness. As was displayed the week they had their first scrimmage and he had a screen pass, one on one with the DB and went down for a 2 yd gain.

Holley may win the show, but if you think he is all around better than Hawk then you need to pay more attention to the show lol.

Adam, I was doing some Hawkins research getting ready for tonights show and according to Cleveland papers and forums, Hawk was signed by Cle but obviously cut.

Cleveland Browns gather undrafted free agents
Posted by Tony Grossi Plain Dealer Reporter April 29, 2008 12:51PM

Four cornerbacks, three running backs and two receivers are among 23 undrafted free agents the Browns have signed, according to http://theredzone.org

The cornerbacks are:

Jerrid Gaines of Miami (Ohio), Gerard Lawson of Oregon State, Darnell Terrell of Missouri and Jonathan Zenon of Louisiana State.

Others signed:

Tight end Ben Barkema of Iowa State; receiver Brandon Copeland of Bridgewater; linebacker Jermaine Dias of Virginia; safety Justin Harrison of Illinois; kick returner Andrew Hawkins of Toledo; safety Greg Hay of Toledo; quarterback Craig Hormann of Columbia; offensive tackle James Lee of South Carolina State; receiver Lance Leggett of Miami; defensive end Xavier Mitchell of Tennessee; linebacker Nick Moore of Baylor; defensive end Chase Ortiz of Texas Christian; center Robbie Powell of Purdue; kicker Jason Reda of Illinois; defensive tackle Brian Schaefering of Lindenwood; running back Austin Scott of Penn State; running back Tony Temple of Missouri; running back Travis Thomas of Notre Dame; and offensive lineman Eric Young of Tennessee.

Some of these players may have been signed on a tryout basis.

Granted, he was probably signed to a tryout but he was still signed by Cleveland whether it was for a day or 3 months. I was reading some Cleveland Brown forums and they had Hawk listed as number 10 on the free agent signing. Haha, they were in love with Austin Scott too, said he was the steal of the list and that he was held back due to his criminal history. This list just goes to show you that its hard to find rookie free agents.

1. QB - Craig Horman – Columbia
2. RB - Tony Temple – Missouri
3. RB - Austin Scott - Penn St.
4. RB - Travis Thomas - Notre Dame
5. RB - Deshawn Baker - South Carolina State
6. WR - Lance Leggett - Miami (FL)
7. WR - Brandon Copeland - Bridgewater (VA)
8. WR - Chris Schubert - Oberlin
9. WR – James Banks - Carson-Newman College
10. WR/CB - Andrew Hawkins – Toledo
11. TE - Kolo Kapanui - West Texas A&M
12. TE - Matt Champa – Dayton
13. TE – Ben Barkema – Iowa State
14. OT - Brian Stamper – Vandy
15. OT – Eddie Pinigis - Liberty

Anyhow, I still think Holley wins tonight. Even though I wouldnt put it past JJ and Co to put him in the CFL and make it look like he lost. But, if he blew his knee they would be screwed. I wouldnt be suprised if they filmed two endings one with Holley winning and the other with Hawk, in case of an injury/criminal incident etc.
