Yea their is a chance neither one will be at our pick. At that point lets just take the BPA with might be a DB. I just hope the draft goes in a way that we can get a defensive player. We have so many defensive needs that if a CB or DT or Safety we didn't think we had a chance at then ill be happy.
My next two articles are going to be CB and Saftey. There is a good chance a talent that would normally be top15-20 is still around when we go on the board. The DB class this year is deep.

I def rank Tak atop that list.
I would love to see Barnett fall to us though.
I'm a big Walker fan but he seems like a luxury pick for us, similar but maybe slightly better than Malik Collins. Walker isn't a speed edge rusher but is ideally inside.
I'm not a huge fan of Taco and I'm concerned about Lawsons injury problems.

Thanks for sharing these articles. Good insight. Hope tabor, wilson, and maye cross your radar for the next piece.

I'm still maintaining that Taak and Harris are mid 2nd round prospects that people are overrating because we are so desperate for a pass rusher. I'd rather just wait until the 2nd round to get a pass rusher if they are the best options at 28.

I think people are looking at those two because they're two of the DEs who are listed on many big boards right now in the 20-35 range. Definitely seems like Takk is pretty much a top 30 player on every board. Harris/Lawson move around more then Takk but are usually a top 40 level of player. Feels like DE will move around a little bit at the combine based on what Tim Williams does in interviews/drug test. But yes DE does tend to sort up boards because of the impact of a strong alpha rusher, just like QB, CB, and LT tend to sort upward more then other positions.

If Noah Spencer's was top 2nd round Harris will not be mid 2nd rounder. He'll blow Spence combine out of the water, and combine disappointment is the only reason Spence was a second rounder anyway.

Either Takk or Tim Williams will be there at 28, can't get cute need to take one of them. Only other guy as explosive off the edge is Tarrell Basham and he'll be a mid round pick, maybe even up to 2nd if he destroys it at combine.

Are you forgetting that Spence had a drug addiction problem and was kicked out of school? He was a top 15 pick if not for that. Harris is not in that same realm. I don't see any bend to his game. He has a fast 1st step no doubt, but he's very much a straight line player in my opinion. That and I don't see him holding up in run support at all.

I'm not saying Harris can't be an effective pass rusher, I just think he's getting a bit overrated because we are so desperate for the position. It's going to be interesting to see how the team value these guys. there are certainly an abundance of pass rushers, but not much concensus as to where they rank

Not straight line at all, he has a nasty Freeneyesque spin move that I don't see from the other guys in this class. Him vs the run you may be right

Yes, he does have a very good spin move. But when I say straight line I mean I don't see the ability to dip, bend, and flatten out around the edge as easily as you'd like from a smallish speed rusher. Harris definitely has some good points and I don't dislike him, for sure better than McKinnley. Don't see anything in him at all

Here is an article I wrote on The Landry Hat regarding 5 defensive end prospects. I intend to do a different position every week. The players in this piece are:

Takkarist McKinley, OLB, UCLA
Taco Charlton, DE, Michigan
Charles Harris, DE, Missouri
Carl Lawson, DE, Auburn
DeMarcus Walker, DE, Florida State

My preference is Taco and Harris. If Taco is there at 28 take him. In second round move up and take Harris (he will not last until the end of the second round). After that take BPA at corner. This is as good as we can get in this years draft.

Taco has the most potential but may have the lowest floor. Still my top choice though

Lawson could be a steal but we currently have 2 DE who currently is and may possibly have a injury filled career in Lawrence and Tapper. So we should stay away from injury prone players in the 1st and 2nd round this year at the least.

I don't think Takk McKinley will be in our range.

Charles Harris is probably the safest edge rusher we can draft.

Walker isn't a Weakside end. Most likely a day 2 type pick. Would love to have walker rotate with Collins at 3 tech. Will allow us to make Crawford a June 1st cut.

DITTO. I too am on the Taco Train. If DAL can't pull off a trade for Myles Garrett, I am all in for Taco

If we got Taco and Harris I'd be thrilled! That would go a long way in turning the front 7 around. It would be a solid rotation year 1, but 2-3 years later once they've developed (assuming they reach their potential) it could be scary good.

Honestly, I would be happy with any one of them.
But in order, I like

1-Taco
2- Harris
3- Walker
4- Lawson
5- McKinley (undersized)

Takkarist McKinley, OLB, UCLA - I have him right behind Harris. He will likely be gone also.
Taco Charlton, DE, Michigan - I dont see the quickness or bend for a consistent NFL 7 technique
Charles Harris, DE, Missouri - I think he will be gone. His tape is unreal. Natural 7 tek.
Carl Lawson, DE, Auburn - Always hurt. Maybe a mid round guy Id be ok with.
DeMarcus Walker, DE, Florida State - 5 technique

All you need to do is watch the first minute of this to see bend and pass rush ability with a spin move. Missouri has a long tradition of guys like this. I would be stoked to get Harris.

That's a highlight video of all of his best plays and shows him bend around the edge for a sack once right before the 1 minute mark.
