Rock, I thought Lamb was a good pick at 17. What I’m talking about is we haven’t drafted a S in the first round since Roy Williams. Has it been 16-17 years since we put some high draft capital there?

No problem with the Lamb pick. It’s been a problem not drafting S’s for nearly 2 decades.
So you would have picked Lamb as well then? Don’t be wishy washy just come out and answer my question.

I'd rather they drafted Michael Rapp or Juan Thornhill instead of Hill.

Rapp played in 15 games and had 2 INTs with 1 TD
Thornhiill played 16 games with 3 INTs and 1 TD

Both highly regarded safeties where there for the taking, but no we pass on them for a DL project with an attitude issues.
That wasn’t the fricken question.

Lol! Come on Rock. I did answer your question: “I thought Lamb was a good pick at 17.” So yes as I said, Lamb was a good pick at 17, and yes I would have made that pick too. Clear?

Just a quick reminder that the OP was about this organization’s poor results with free agent safeties and their reluctance to draft one in the first round over the last decade plus.

If you want to make a thread about the Cedee Lamb pick and it’s value, I would be interested. Why are you turning this thread about the Cowboys and safeties into a Cedee Lamb thread? I don’t understand. Please advise.

Apologist 101.

What about'ism.

Claim: We need to get better at drafting Safeties. A fair and accurate sentiment.

Apologist: "What about CeeDee Lamb!!!!

Commonality score: Zero.

It’s like you guys think they can draft or sign a FA top 5 player at every position. There is a freakin salary cap that you’re obviously not aware of. Just wait when the sign ET at a salary you would never have thought a year ago.
Do you see how many UDFA, Plan B, and Trades were made to make up the history for the Dallas Cowboys at the Safety position in the non-control Jerry Dumbo GM years.

Its not that hard when you are committed to making it happen. Stop digging for scraps in the trash. Let your personnel group find the talent and then play the talent to develop into starters.

This is not a salary cap issue it is a GM issue that does not allow talent to develop unless you are in the country club. Look at all the years the Cowboys wasted with Heath.

Every player acquisition is a salary cap issue who the hell you think you’re kidding?

You can go back even further for futility at the position.

Remember the immortal Gerald Sensabaugh?

Our fans love to dwell in the misery of the past. It suits them better than looking forward to what might be in the future.
