No, he didn't. However, he fooled people like you into believing it's all about WR's.

(BTW, what's w/ this grade school "People like you" trash?)

Playing in the absolute worse division in football goes a long way to success.

You are automatically handed a division title with at least a home game every year.

And to be honest the AFC

as a whole are just not that good.

The Steelers and Chargers and every other AFC team play like little girls when they play the Patriots.

You can knock the division all you want, but they get thru the playoffs and beat the best the nfc has to offer in the superbowl.

Makes me wonder how important toughness really is. Other teams look for talent and Patriots go into seasons with a less talented defense than a lot of other teams but they always seem to play above their talent level. Maybe just going after guys who are mentally tough is the key idea.

That's an interesting one. He's got a point. A bunch of guys who really need to coordinate what they do. A coach who can make that happen without big spending is gold.

NE is 24th in the league in oline spending. Without having the data, I remember them on the low side generally for oline spending forever.

The AFCE has not been the worst division by any measure I can come up with. Since the current divisions were set up in 2002 the AFCE teams actualy have the best combined win% (569-519-0 .523) of any division. The worst team in the division, the Bills, have only 2 seasons with fewer than 6 wins. It's not that the other AFCE teams are good but they're perpetually mediocre. Against teams other than the Patriots their overall record is 338-376-0 .473

The actual worst division in the regular season in this period is the NFCW (506-578-4) Interestingly (to me anyway) The NFCW is the only division that combined for as many playoff wins as the Patriots and they have the 2nd most Super Bowl appearances of any division. Also all 4 teams from the division have appeared in the Super Bowl. Perhaps there's an advantage to being really terrible some years in exchange for being really good in others. I think most fans would take having their team go 4-12 3 years in a row if the 4th year they went 14-2 and won the Super Bowl.

I'd also dispute your clam the AFC has been inferior to the NFC. Since 2002 the AFC is 561-523-4 against the NFC. The Patriots win% against the NFC during this period is slightly higher than it is against their division opponents.

    1. Never be satisfied that there isn't one more thing you can do to the roster.
    2. Pick smart players that can take coaching.
    3. Convince your team that you are smarter than the guy across the field.
    4. Everyone is accountable for their job.
    5. The devil is in the details, sweat the small stuff.

That's a combination bad returns, bend but don't break defense, a lot of three-and-outs on offense.

    Nonsense.
    Nothing is handed to anyone.
You think the afce teams just lie down to get trampled on? Does not happen.

Yup. Because they do an amazing job of drafting OL's.

About the only one I remember them spending any money on was stalwart Mankins, and they franchised him twice before they released him.

the Patriots traded Mankins to the Bucs... they didnt release him. And they tagged him only once, not twice.

Other linemen have made good money... LIght, Koppen, Neal, Kacszur, Connolly, Solder, Vollmer, etc...

Drafting or coaching/developing? In NE's case, probably a little of both, but I tend to think the latter is the key here. They have a scheme that makes an oline more than the sum of its players.

They pay very close attention to traits that generally lead a player to success. When they draft OL, it's all about strength, lateral agility, motor, and short area quickness. Slugs can't play at any position in today's NFL.

Wish the Cowboys invested more into ST returns. That part of the game seems to be an afterthought with this coaching staff. Although Austin was a bright spot this season.

In terms of their oline picks, what are they trading off compared to other teams?
