5 Things I Like About Our Offense

1. We have great versatility in our run game.

Meaning, we can run the ball on outside zone and inside zone plays with both EE and Morris. We were confined to inside zone runs with DMC (who did run them very well). We can also run the ball to the left with Tyron and Collins or to the right with Zack and Free. This is what we had in 2014 that was so valuable and why Murray broke the NFL record of most 100 yard rushing performances in a row to start a season.

We also have both EE and Morris so we can keep them fresh. The historical data on 2 RB systems show that you want to use the faster runner more in the 2nd half over the bruising runner. Hopefully Garrett and company are aware of that. Obviously, EE isn't a scat-back, but he's got much more speed than Morris.

2. We can finally run the ball effective out of the shotgun

At least with EE we can. It also helps that Dak has legit running ability as well. EE has the speed to get more east and west and then turn up field which, IMO, is what is needed to run effectively out of the shotgun. I don't believe the read option is flawless as those moronic Skins fans tried to tell us years ago, but I do believe it is still a viable offense in the NFL that can...if done at the right time with the right personnel...can make the opposing defenses' job harder and the QB's job easier. With the RPO and EE's ability to run out of the shotgun effectively since that is what he did in college, it just makes our run game even more versatile.

3. The screen passing game

I believe we'll be much improved with the screen passes under Dak, if not a really darn good screen passing game. This means a lot of easy plays where we gain valuable yardage and making the opponent a bit gun shy about blitzing.

4. The mismatches our wide receivers cause.

Dez is just a world class athlete that causes mismatches for any team. Beasley is a matchup problem in the slot for teams. I'm not overly nutty about T-Will, but I don't hate the player either. I think he's a player that tends to fair well against the majority of #2 CB's and almost all #3 CB's. And Butler I think has the ability and speed to also eat up a lot of #2 CB's and almost all #3 CB's.

Over the years we've seen teams put their #2 CB and a safety to cover Dez and then their #1 CB on T-Will. I think if Butler looks as good as he did in preseason (and can stay healthy), this may disturb what the opposing D-Coordinators may try to do. And with the run game and Beasley underneath, we could eat up defenses rather efficiently.

5. Short yardage and goal line offense

Much more versatility in the run game instead of being restricted to inside zone runs. I think EE will be a good short yardage runner and Morris has always been a quality short yardage back. We also have Dak who can not only run, but should be a better option on QB sneaks. And I also like how well Dak was throwing the fades and back shoulder throws.

Nice write-up YR. I have been encouraged by our ability to threaten all areas of the field. With Lucky, Zeke we've got serious ability to turn the corners in addition to between the tackles and with Butler/Dez we can go deep in addition to the short/medium passes. We've got talent on board that can hit you anywhere on the field and that's got to be problematic for any defense. If they can get consistency from Dak in making first downs out of third downs they will be a real force!

We've built about the best offense you could possibly build in salary cap football.

2 problems..

1. Rookie QB - Hopefully this isn't a weakness but a rookie is a rookie until proven otherwise.

2. Jason Carrot - He likes to play not to lose, be predictable, and bland. I worry that he will continue to neuter this thing.

I think we're going to see a lot of back shoulder throws. Dak is insanely good at making them

I don't think JG is aware of that since we did the opposite with Julius, Felix and Barber.

I would add something new we saw in Preseeason that I hope carries over into the season. He made deep throws to TWill and Butler that we haven't seen from our offense in a long time. The throw to the corner of the end zone to TWill was a double move from TWill, which we haven't seen in the past. The throw was perfect. The deep balls to Butler were excellent also.

The last few years Dez, Witten and Beasley played very well but we didn't have a true deep threat. If TWill and Butler give us that in 2016, its a huge plus.

#2 is huuuuge. You can effectively run the read-option out of shotgun, while also allowing Dak to pass from the shotgun where he is much moire comfortable at this point. And doing so without tipping the offense to either pass or run.

The one thing i like is the QB is now live in the running game. By the end of the game, Dak should have 35-45 rushing yards including a couple of significant 3rd down conversions.

Dez is a deep threat, he usually is doubled so he didn't get a lot of opportunities.

Yup...worried about that too. They need to let Dak just play the game his way. Give him a simple playbook and get him out on the edge with his legs. Trying to be too careful with him with make him second guess himself.

Don't overthink it. Dak can provide a ton of momentum for this team when he makes plays. Garrett should play the "it's us against the world" card and come out swinging and punching teams in the mouth. Play like you have nothing to lose.

What dont you take the tough job and find 5 things you like about our defense?

1. Sean Lee - Just his overall excellence, if he stays healthy he is one of the best at his position
2. DT depth - if this D is going to be decent, it will be because of the disruptive DT's...several with excellent initial quickness
3. Byron Jones - Will stabilize the secondary and be the true FS we have been looking for
4. DeMarcus Lawrence - On verge of breakthrough as pass rusher. Second half of last season was impressive.
5. Orlando Scandrick - intense competitor that was sorely missed a year ago

Yah, I thought that would happen. Naming one player each time doesn't exactly qualify.

DT depth I will give you that, but hardly a great thing to list.

Byron Jones has done absolutely NOTHING since he has been here. When he gets his first pick or starts breaking up passes or causing fumbles let me know. Its early, but nothing to crow about. Lawrence is suspended so that nullifies the good part for now in my opinion.

Its a struggle to find anything no doubt.

I think they need to open up that playbook and let Dak attack. He says he's the smartest QB in the class so now is the time to put it to test.
