Mangold & Winston

1. Mangold and Winston is not worth the #18 pick. Bobby Carpenter is and also fills a need in the linebacker position.

2. Mangold was off the board at the 49th pick.

3. The lineman Dallas was targeting in the 2nd round was Daryn Colledge. Green Bay moved up ahead of Dallas and snatched him.

4. If you don't think Fasano will help out in blocking, guess again. The biggest criticism Parcells had last season when it came to blocking was the lack of backside support. That nabbed Julius and Marion from breakout runs.

5. As bad as Dallas was on the offensive line last season, they were still ranked in the middle of the pack. With the facts stated in the earlier posts, the blocking will be improved.

2. Both Mangold and Winston were off the boards at the 49th pick. So criticizing the selection of Fasano is irrelevent.

I am agreeing with you more and more MW--starting to worry me

I'm like the ugly gal in the bar at 2am (no disrespect ladies-- just a harmless example)... at some point even my opinion becomes appealing. :)

MW,

I just edited my above post. I mistaked Winston for Justice originally. My thoughts still apply though.

No way would they have started.

#1. Jerry even said during the off-season that they would not "throw" another rookie out there.

#2. Winston has "issues" along with not having enough strength-- in other words he was not ready to start this year unless you wanted another rookie RT to give up double digit sacks.

#3. There was never, ever any inclination by the front office to try upgrading the center position on this club that we know of. Every indication was that Bill & company was more than happy to go with Johnson/Gurode. And like Winston, Mangold wasn't the greatest center ever available in a draft so I think it's doubtful he could beat out either Johnson or Gurode for the starting position EVEN IF the Cowboys were inclined to toss another rookie offensive lineman out there. On top of all this, several people have pointed out that statistically Johnson was not horrible-- outside of penalties.

So now that I've taken a switch to ya... please feel free to not post this offensive line panic nonsense anymore-- okeydokie?

You're still right. :)

Hell several of us said all off-season that a 2nd year Petitti was probably going to be potentially better than any offensive tackle we could draft outside of Ferguson.

Folks plainly underestimate the major transition that players go through between years 1 & 2. Right now Rob Petitti is becoming the "poster boy" for what a dedicated young player can do to improve themselves over the course of one offseason.

And as painful as it was for him (and us) last year watching him struggle the fact is that it didn't "break him" AND the knowledge he gained from last season (not too mention the vast physical improvements he made during the offseason) look (at this point) to have made him a much different player in his second year.
