That's not football 101. That's just something you hear about a lot on message boards. The correlation between running effectiveness and winning has been explained many, many times on this board.

You throw the ball alot against teams with bad secondaries and multiple injuries in their secondary. *That's* football 101.

You cant throw the football 85% of the time and win consistantly, wont work, never has, never will. Pretty easy to rush 4 and drop seven. End of passing game.

You don't need to average 4+ yards per carry, however, you do need a reasonable number of attempts to at least keep the defense honest.

I counted 56 passes called. He had 51 attempts but there were a couple sacks plus one scramble. So the ratio is actually 56:8 which makes it even worse.

Murray was hurt. Certainly 51 vs 8 is a bit extreme...okay very extreme....but at the same time you want to attack a team's weakness. Vikings are more stout on the line than they are on the backend.

Also Murray got hurt and it looks like they don't trust Joseph.

Murray was hobled, Randle took one hard hit ( and maybe contusion), they dont trust Dunbar with ball protection.

we are going to have to run the ball next week. Look at how the jets beat the saints today. Geno had barely 100 yards passing.

We need to have ball control to keep brees off the field as much as possible. We allowed peyton in a rhythm and it got to the point where it was going to be impossible for us to stop him.

My biggest gripe with Garrett. The man refuses to run the rock or make it a point of emphasis. That and his game management seems piss poor at key times.

I don't have much faith in this team. The only hope in my opinion is that Ware, Austin, and Wilcox come back and all 3 of them play at a pro bowl level.

It all depends whom you're throwing against. You can do it against this MIN team and win consistently. That's all that mattered today. You do what's effective, and counter the defensive adjustments when it stops being effective. Just because teams that are behind end up throwing it a lot doesn't mean that all teams that throw it alot are doing it because they're behind.
