SJones stated we will be looking to draft a QB. Now there's a lot of off-season left before draft but we know they won't pay Lance and they shouldn't. Rush made a post basically saying he will be moving on.

Both Adams and Schotty prefer play action orientated efficient structured passing attack functional mobility not elite mobility seems to be preference though all 3 have worked with mobile QBs.

With that in mind who you looking at in 5th?

Brought back your previous thread because you nailed it unless Stephen lies.

Shough will be long gone.
McCord n Howard should be gone by the 4th round. So, I think Gabriel may slide into the 5th because of size.

Gabriel
Rourke
These two is where I draw the line. If they're off the board just pack it up till next year, and that's assuming the 8 or 9 guys ranked ahead of them are already selected.

What about Riley?

I'd consider some small-school guys that late who might can be developed.

Zach Zebrowski, Central Missouri, won the Harlon Hill Trophy the last two years, completing 69 percent of his passes in 2023 for more than 5,000 yards and 61 TDs, while only throwing 5 interceptions. He passed for nearly 5,000 yards and 40 TDs in 2024, while also rushing for almost 600 yards and 10 TDs.

Probably just a UDFA, but I'd waste a late-rounder on him.

Tommy Mellott, with the system Schottenheimer is going to run. I am once again pumping up Tommy Mellott.

Tommy is a small school prospect who's competition sucked. It's hard to tell how good of a QB he is because his offense at Montana State was so, so gimmicky.

It's hard to tell for me whether he is a really good QB, or if he's just out athleting guys. He makes up for his 6'0 height with great pocket presence, and what I would bet is a 4.42 forty. He outruns really fast defenders. Pulls away from them.

All I do know is that if you watch the plays at 14:21,14:55, and 17:42, you will get what I'm talking about when I say I see a bit of "it factor". Those are NFL caliber plays.

Anyway. Kyle McCord is a better prospect and I'd take him in the 5th in a heartbeat.

I think Gabriel carves out a nice role in the NFL at the least, and could potentially be pretty good.

To me, it depends on his arms strength. Because I think the brain and accuracy are absolutely there.

I think I came away more impressed with the short, fast receiver, No. 14. Mellott showed some legs, but a lot of those passes were behind the receivers and probably would have ended up as interceptions in the NFL.

I like Rourke a lot but he's the classic dropback QB. Not sure why he isn't rated higher....
I'm all over this kid with a 5th rounder

Draft Profile: Bio

A tale of two journeys defines Kurtis Rourke's path to the NFL Draft. The Ontario native first carved out his legacy at Ohio University, where he rewrote the program's record books over five seasons, culminating in 7,651 passing yards and 50 touchdowns. But it was his final act - a stunning transfer to Indiana for his sixth year - that truly cemented his draft stock. Despite playing through a partially torn ACL, Rourke orchestrated the Hoosiers' improbable run to the College Football Playoff, setting the school's single-season touchdown record with 29 scores through the air.

The 6'5", 231-pound signal caller's journey began at Holy Trinity High School, where he amassed 4,250 passing yards and 63 touchdowns while earning two league MVP nods. Following his brother Nathan's footsteps to Ohio University, Rourke gradually ascended from redshirt freshman to MAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2022, when he posted a stellar 69.1 completion percentage and 3,256 passing yards. That season included a program-record 537-yard performance against Fordham.

Rourke's decorated career includes multiple Academic All-MAC selections, showcasing his intellectual approach to the game. His 2024 campaign at Indiana proved transformative - completing 75% of his passes in a statement win over Northwestern and tying the program record with six touchdown passes against Purdue in the Old Oaken Bucket game. Despite the late-season ACL setback requiring January surgery, his 3,042 passing yards and remarkable efficiency in the Big Ten elevated his draft profile significantly

Scouting Report: Summary

Rourke projects as a high-floor backup quarterback who could develop into a spot starter in a timing-based passing attack that emphasizes quick game concepts and intermediate throws. His processing speed and accuracy from clean pockets will translate immediately to NFL game speed, though his ceiling is capped by athletic limitations.

His ideal fit would be with a team running a West Coast system that can maximize his anticipation and ball placement on rhythm throws while minimizing the need for second-reaction plays. While he won't wow anyone with physical tools, Rourke's intelligence, toughness, and consistency from the pocket make him an attractive Day 3 target for teams seeking a reliable backup who can execute their base offense.

The ACL surgery adds some short-term uncertainty, but Rourke's track record of production across multiple levels of competition suggests he can be a capable NFL signal caller when healthy. His combination of size, experience, and processing ability gives him a clear path to sticking in the league, even if he may never develop into a full-time starter.

Big fan of Gabriel.

Was able to get to know him at UCF. Super smart kid and talented. Reminds of Kellen Moore. Winner, smart, not the best arm strength. But will be a solid QB2

This is interesting coz I read a nugget raving about his arm strength.........but his height was a concern.

Yes, Rourke is another one. Playing the season with ACL says a lot about him, and he produced. I'm ready for a QB standing tall at 6'5 throwing darts, there's like 4 or 5 of them this draft.

I think the national media is just now getting to the guys not labeled as 1st or 2nd rounders, so a guy like Rourke could rise.

WR Coach Junior Adams knows everything there is to know about Gabriel, and it's highly likely Dillon has a sponsor in the building. DG can throw a quality deep ball, hope he throws at the Combine.

That is one advantage of having some new faces ( from colleges and other teams ) on the coaching staff. A ton of good info on free agents and draft players.

It’s the deep balls. Tons of velocity and zip. But the deep ball and deep outs may be troubling

Concerns
    • Deep-ball accuracy: Gabriel's deep-ball accuracy could limit his upside
    • Arm strength: Some say his arm strength is a concern, especially when it comes to pushing the ball downfield
    • Height: Some are concerned about Gabriel's height in terms of being able to look over the offensive line for target

You will get someone like Cam Miller in the 7th and be expected to like it.

Feels like a roll of the dice.....on another Tony Romo

This is the guy I want. Also helps he's a fellow Canuck

I like Rourke but he is OLD and he has a torn ACL ,he maybe available much later.
These are definite issues if you're hoping for a franchise QB (which is a long shot to begin with). That said, we are likely looking to draft a backup with a day 3 pick. In that case, age isn't as much a concern here.
