You already know how this goes.

Dallas and Philly win today.

Dallas upsets Philly next week.

Dallas beats Tennessee and Philly beats New Orleans.

Dallas and Washington will be flexed to a later game as they will be playing for the playoffs.

New York upsets Philly getting the 7 seed.

Dallas lays a stinker against Washington and loses the division.
You doom fans, I don’t remember the Cowboys ever choking away an NFC East division title. To be honest they don’t choke in the playoffs. The Cowboys just lose to better teams.

I bow to McC in this one. He once had a GB team go in at 15-1 and lose their first playoff game. Both Phillips and Garret were not good at preparing the team for their first playoff game.

The fact is any player not close to 100% can be a liability and if an additional week of rest at the end of the season can help them, why not? Winning the last game or the next to last isn't the key, winning that first playoff game is. That's strange territory for this team.

However, got to be wary of that 6th seed, that's a visit to Niner Land. So, protecting that 5th spot is critical. I like their odds against any South opponent. Better to be at the 7 seed than the 6.

14 penalties in that playoff game isn't just losing to a better team. They helped the Niners beat them.

The 49ers where the better team. San Francisco was literally a dropped interception away from being in the Super Bowl.

I'm prepared to take a beating for my comments however, hear me out and let me know your thoughts on the scenarios I've noted.

Right now, we are odds on likely to finish as the 5th seed. We got a shot at the 1 seed which is clearly the goal so yes, play hard and aim high but it is stacked against us so I'm trying to be a realist and trying to think ahead.

some assumptions..........if we play Tampa in the WC and win, we will play the Eagles at their place (assuming no other wild card shocks) with a week of rest for them so that's a tough task.

My train of thought is do we take a week (even 2 weeks) "bye" from the Titans and Football team so we at least play Tampa fresh?

Now, I'm not saying hand the East to the Eagles, if we beat Jacksonville and the Eagles, then play hard to the end of the regular season but if we do fail to win against either of these 2, accept the 5th seed and take a mini-break?

Just listening to Parsons talk about being beat up, seeing injuries to players makes me believe the rest is better for the players than the "they'll go soft / get rusty" debate.

We have a good roster, 2023 should be a chance too but I just feel this year is the year to break that hoodoo yet I think 3 hard road games on the back of a 17 game season is going to be incredibly difficult to pull off so it we can't get the 1 seed, rest up and hit the playoffs after a recharge of the batteries.

Thoughts?
I'm certainly tracking what you are saying. However, I don't subscribe to the idea we can just turn it off and on anytime we want. Sandbagging games are a prescription to lose when you want to win. I think it's far better to keep the momentum moving forward every game. If we end up with the 5th seed then so be it. We'll just have to take care of business on the road.

Resting players can have the negative impact of allowing rust to form, and for momentum and inertia to wane.

There have been some 9-7 teams that have won the SB over the years as WC teams, and part of their magic was capitalizing on playing their best football late in Dec and riding that wave into the postseason.

IMO— whether we win the NFCE or get in as a WC— our best course of action is to focus on playing our best football down the stretch and get the good vibes going. Winning cures all ills.

Just win baby, and the rest will take care of itself
Yep Dallas seems to have a problem with time off

Last year didn’t we play through and we still looked bad against SF. I think people read to much into it.

Personally I’d rest everyone against Washington. Or let them just play a quarter

The last 15 years, this Cowboys culture has not handled having time to “rest”. I’m hoping Big Mac makes this team stay focused, prepared and committed to winning in the playoffs. Last year’s first round exit was highlighted by a Cowboys team sleepwalking through 3 qtrs, tons of mental mistakes, pre-snap penalties and a general lazy effort. Here’s hoping Mac lights a fire under these guys.

I agree. I think a 17 game season is too long. If we have no chance at the division, rest anyone with a bruise.

Don't automatically assume we'll play the Eagles if we don't lose to Tampa. If Detroit gets the 7th seed, they have a shot at beating the Vikings.

I was totally onboard with the idea of resting players until I read this, and you know.................you make a great point. I agree.

It’s more about playing your best football going into the playoffs. You can’t function in fear of injuries. Tyron was injured in practice. Sean Lee was list for the year in the first OTA.

The WFT is capable of beating the Vikings, too.

My thoughts are you are wasting your time. Seasons are meant to enjoy, and trying to catch the Iggles is part of that fun. Juts look at Vikes Colts yesterday to see you never know what will happen in this league.

Of course te odds currently have us as the 5th, but who caes what the odds say. I bet those in game odds of the colts winning yesterday were probably about 95% or more halfway through the 3rd quarter yesterday.... who cares.

You definitely try for the #1 seed, but losing to the Eagles might not be the worst thing. Giving some guys like Parsons and other banged up players a game or two rest would go a long way towards getting ready for round #1 1.

You need your best guys as healthy as possible when the playoffs begin. Beating a team in a meaningless end of the regular season game does nothing for you. Heck, give the young kids a chance to shine. You going to play Parsons in a meaningless game if he is gimpy or so you want him rested and healthy for that playoff game?

That would be bad business and poor team management.

NO you play every game to win but the last game depends on what consequences it has you can pay a lot of backups, but we can win game with Rush and backups like Malik..

so paty the next 3 to win at all costs, then the last one can be Our BYe for a handful of starters, cant rest everyone but you can create a mini-bye for the playoff the final game.
