6th Round pick Sam Young

It's so hard to tell how a player will develop.

All players at this stage will have warts.....There are players that wind up being superstars that come from all rounds.

Are they infallible ?

I happen to think they've done a very good job so far, but alot of us don't agree with this pick.

Its a 6th rd poick. They tabbed a guy from a major program that played a pro style offense with NFL coaches, and the guy started for 4yrs. .

So have dozens of other players who have become nothing at the next level. Major programs, pro style offenses, former NFL coaches, starters for entire careers, doesn't necessarily mean " good prospect ". They're good peripherals for the resume, but not major barometers to be measured by.

Yeah but you'd like to see a guy with Starter potential.

This guys ceiling is as a backup.

They like him because he has size, he is smart, and he is battle tested.

They didn't take him because he is a talent.

This question i have is can he develope any more? He's played more games than anyone in ND history. His skills are pretty darn maxed out in my mind. He has a shot but it's a big jump to the next level and at some point you have to have the physical skills to make that jump.

Are we the fans infallible? :laugh2: I would think our scouts spent more time looking at him than any of us. Clearly does not mean he will make it but give me a break they are basing their view on a bit more info than we are.

We reached slightly for Young, imo. But this is an area of need and we are in the 6th round...so no big deal.

Obvioulsy not BPA in this case, but you do have to address needs as well.

As a ND fan, I'm sorry to say that this one looks destined to not work out. Young is a walking penalty machine - he'd pick up the baton that Flozell Adams left behind. He does not shuffle/slide well, which leads him to hold speed rushers when they try to take a wide rush. He's a very good run blocker, but I don't think he can pass block on the NFL level.

Other picks have been very good to this point. Wouldn't mind seeing Donovan Warren or Ramon Harewood next.

Who knows?

I'm sure any player that's been drafted in the later rounds has had to face those questions.

He is a college kid he has room to grow as a player. My goodness he is not a 30 year old guy who is past his prime. :laugh2:

If he's anywhere near as awful as some of you are making him out to be, they wouldnt have started him every game for 4 yrs. Notre Dame's talent is down, but Weis wouldnt have let the guy stay out there if he was a total dreg who was killing the offense, as some of you have suggested.

Again its a 6th rd pick, what did some of you expect? Anthony Munoz or Joe Johnson?

A lot of guy don't and it's my opinion this kid is what he is, a decent college player that stands little chance in the pros. You go on with your opinion.

So what you learn in college is the best you will ever do? :laugh2:

:hammer: Thanks for the sanity:star:

Weis had a real problem recruiting and developing linemen. He started because he was the best we had. And anyone watching ND these last few years would be horrified by the Oline play. THIS guy gave up two sacks to NAVY, and that was this last year.

He is a Tackle all the way.

Shows 0 potential as a guard.

too tall to play inside, and like I said, he lacks the strength to go with his 6'8 body. really needs to become a gym rat
