7 quarterbacks Cowboys could go after in free agency now that Kirk Cousins, Sam Bradford off market

http://sportsday.***BANNED-URL***/d...ast-quarterbacks-set-left-cowboys-free-agency

Here's what we know and what we don't know about the quarterback situations in the NFC East.

What we know: The Washington Commanders will have Kirk Cousins after placing the franchise tag on the four-year veteran. The Philadelphia Eagles will have Sam Bradford at the helm after agreeing to a two-year, $36 million extension with the former Sooner. And Eli Manning is about to make a ton of money.

What we don't know: How Tony Romo will come back from his injuries in 2015 and who will back him up.

If the Cowboys look to free agency for quarterback help, they could have several options. ESPN's Bill Barnwell says the 2016 QB free agent class is one of the most deep and "most compelling" of the last four years. Note: Barnwell's article was published before Cousins and Bradford went to their respective teams.

Here are some of the quarterbacks on his list (full article is here).

Brock Osweiler

One of Barnwell's top quarterbacks is the 6-foot-8 quarterback. And, as his colleague Adam Schefter notes, Osweiler is going to be hitting the market.

Barnwell's analysis: "The massive 25-year-old showed promise over his first seven professional starts, but as I wrote about in previewing the Texans' offseason, his numbers are shockingly similar to those of Brian Hoyer through Hoyer's first eight starts. Osweiler is more projectable than Hoyer, given that he has the sort of prototypical NFL size and arm strength teams fall in love with around this time, but he spent 2015 playing for a team with a dominant defense and great receivers."

Osweiler's career stats: 21 games played / 187-305 for 2,126 passing yards (1,967 in eight games in 2015) / 11 touchdowns, 6 interceptions

Ryan Fitzpatrick

Barnwell's analysis: "Ryan Fitzpatrick is a popularly bought product in the free-agent market, having played for a different team in each of the past four seasons, but he's coming off his best professional season and likely to get a healthy raise from the $3.3 million he cleared with the Jets last year."

Fitzpatrick's career stats: 112 games played / 2,087-3,473 for 23,178 passing yards (a career-high 3,905 in 2015) / 154 touchdowns, 116 interceptions

Barnwell's analysis: "No, Griffin probably won't be the quarterback he was in 2012 ever again. The possibility that he could recapture some of that magic makes him a more tantalizing option than your typical fourth-choice quarterback in free agency, which is where he'll be when Washington cuts him in early March. Compare his promise to somebody like [Ryan] Mallett, who would have been in a similar position a year ago. Griffin may not get a clear path to a starting gig, but I threw out the Bills and Rams as plausible landing spots, and there are a bunch of teams around the league who would have to at least consider the possibility of giving Griffin more than typical backup money -- $7 million or so on a one-year deal -- to see if there's something left in the former Baylor star."

Griffin's career stats: 37 games played / 679-1,063 for 1,063 passing yards / 40 touchdowns, 23 interceptions

Here are some other free-agent quarterbacks that are on the market.

At the time that Barnwell published his article, he said that Daniel, who is one of the biggest "unknowns" of this free agent class, looked like he would end up in Philadelphia. However, with Bradford's extension, that could end those rumors. Daniel has also said that he wants a starting job.

Daniel's career stats: 55 games played / 50-77 for 464 passing yards / 40 touchdowns, 23 interceptions...

Osweiler will stay with the broncos.

I think Fitz will sign with the jets again. If not I'd be ok if dallas got him.

I personally think Fitz and Oz will be resigned and if not, too expensive for what we're looking for. No to Vick. The others intrigue me but my money is on Jerry dissapointing the media and either signing the less flashy McCoy/Daniel or going mid-round QB. Not saying we should or shouldn't go QB at 4 but I have a feeling it won't happen and the pick will be 1 of Ramsey, Bosa, or Jack which I'm absolutely fine with as long as our coaches love whoever we're bringing in.

Yes, They will want too much plus want to be starters. No way pay that much for a back up to Romo. None of the others I would want either, but could accept McCoy, maybe Daniels. But still draft a QB if one is available in the 2nd or 3rd that they like. As I really doubt they go QB in the 1st round. As much as I would like them too.
Any way if we end up with a decent QB at a reasonable price, as well as a rookie QB on a rookie salary. It would be great.

Fitz and Osweiler will get starting jobs somewhere, and most likely RG3 as well. Too many QB needy teams for a free agent to want to come here and hope for a Romo injury for playing time. Plus, we are most likely talking $8-12M/year with those guys. Just can't do that. I think we are realistically in the McCoy, Moore, Gradkowsi, Jackson, or Stanton range.

I'm not sure RG3 is getting a starting job. Maybe Cleveland or Houston if there looking not to start the rookie QB I'm sure that each will draft.
